Oh nooo, that’s so sad! She’s beautiful! Really beautiful markings!I’ve had such a disappointment today, I had hatched 3 groups of pure celadons crossed to my mixed snowie/pearl/silver celadon carrier group, each 1 week apart. Each group had about 15 birds and I’ve been bringing each hen in and putting her in a test cage alone once she has started laying. When she lays an egg I band her based on egg color with zip ties.
The third group has started laying, I get about 8 blue eggs and 2 normal eggs currently from that pen, and I checked my favorite in the whole lot and she has been laying, so I put her in the test cage last night and she has just laid a big brown normal speckled egg. Since her pattern is basically a cross of pearl and Tibetan, it’s not something that will really breed true, so without laying blue eggs, she can’t stay, I have to draw the line somewhere lol. I had really been hoping she would be a celadon layer, the odds were so good with most of my unidentified layers laying blue.
Here she is:

I lazily blued out my toes and holy sweatpants haha.
I had a sad day today too, but in the chicken department. My favorite chicken, who deep down I knew was probably a boy…but hadn’t crowed…crowed at me this morning! So now I have two boys and while I can keep roosters, 2 out of 6 being roosters is not wise. So I will either need to buy another coop and more chickens (ideal) or sell a boy…they’re both so beautiful and I love them. :-(
