➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

I bought an assortment of eggs from the seller of the black eggs, so he's gonna ship those plus the black eggs. Figured if I was paying shipping anyway, might as well get some eggs, lol. The assortment should have true Sparklies, which I've been wanting, Pearl Fee, which I can add to my existing Pearls, Pansies, and Golden(?). Golden maybe meaning Golden Manchurian. Which I could also use with the Pearls.

I learned something today: don't try banding your older hens. Two of them prolapsed. One of them sucked it back in and seems fine, the other one I've separated until she heals up a bit more, at least two days maybe. I think that's just too much stress on their already stretched parts.

Where did you order from?
Jackiebjackie from Ebay. Got my celadons from there too - decent hatch rates so far. The first batch produce two white wrynecks, i honestly think it was genetics, too much of a coincidence. Then there were some fertility issues with the second batch of celadons, only about 2/3 were fertile, but since she threw in so many extras, it pretty much evened out to the quantity I paid for.
Despite the issues above, I’m happy with the quality of the birds since all I wanted was pretty blue eggs, lol.

$35...that would be $50 now if we account for inflation?

I’m finding ways to kill time until my jumbo eggs arrive😭 Will be setting my own eggs and the jumbos at the same time, never ordered eggs in freezing temperatures before, so....:fl
I can basically name my price for male darths here in the nyc metro area. I ordered darth eggs from a breeder in Louisiana, total, I spent about $100 on eggs including shipping, I got 36 darth eggs, 36 blue face, and 18 cinnamon red breasted, I kept what I wanted and sold the rest, I asked $100 for the maybe 20-23 that I sold and the guy only really wanted the 4 darth males I had lol, but he took the lot of them for $100. I was happy to have recovered my money, kept the ones I wanted with no cost to me, and I had the whole group gone within 3 days of my ad.

I’ve had that happen, it’s never been a real prolapse, no blood or anything, just red tissue that gets pushed out and generally goes back on its own and gives no problems. I did have a young bird die of fear because I had moved it outside in the fall and it seemed really suffering from the cold so I brought it in to get warm and strengthen up a bit more, my yard is maybe 35 ft long from the greenhouse to the house, and halfway across the yard it just slumped over dead!

I think that "Cajunboy" out of Louisiana is Gary Landry or a close associate of his. He was responsible for importing a lot of the color morphs back in the 80s. He also does a lot of work with zebra finches.

In place of the pictures I really wanted to do it live from inside the barn so people could say “hey let me see that” and I would be able to show them. But unfortunately camera was freezing once I entered the barn.
I didn’t do the last one from the aviary for same reasons….there were a lot more technical issues with the first one.

He sure is. I have bought button eggs from him directly at zebrafinch.com and I bought Coturnix eggs from him as cajunboy on eBay. He’s very helpful.
