➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

That sucks Nutty! Did you have a lot of clears?

I haven't had any deformed ones yet.
I don't remember. I did not candle this hatch and after the last chicken hatch with all clears and one rotten, I wasn't up for candling. I misplaced my good flashlight too, so it wasn't easy with the little, dark quail eggs.

Eggies arrived this morning! I put them straight into the incubator because I'm impatient, but also because they were in the mail for 3 days and my turner will allow them to sit upright for the next 24 hours (I won't plug it in until tomorrow afternoon). Mostly the impatience, though 😅 The celadon eggs are so pretty! A couple of them were very round though... I'm not sure how those will do 🤔 They sent 2 extra of each type (black & celadon), so hopefully things go well!

I just set 190 eggs. They're all from my own birds. I wasn't planning on hatching just yet since I kicked my last hatch outside just yesterday, but I butchered all of my extra boys yesterday and sold all of my available hens today. My tenants just handed my cards to some people who are thinking about getting quail too, so... I need more chicks!

I've been doing a series of egg candling videos. It's been mostly every other day, but if anyone is interested, here it is.

Just wanted to bump this to say THANK YOU for these, @Nabiki! These are super helpful for me. I'm getting ready to do my first candling this weekend. Eggs are currently on day 5 but it's nice to know what to expect. Plus, seeing these videos has helped to quell some of my curiosity, I've been tempted to candle every single day but I haven't done it even once yet because I don't want to open the incubator and throw everything off 😅

I'm glad they're helping! I was especially happy to be able to show some that were clear as well as some that quit along the way for reference.

I'm so nervous about what I might find, but if I have any weird ones or any questions I will definitely post here for feedback! I didn't even know about saddled air sacs, now I have another thing to keep an eye out for.

@Kiki used to candle every day. As long as you don't keep the incubator open too long at a time, it does not hurt anything and may actuaslly help. Broody hens normally get off a nest every day. I had broody chicken hens that would get off their nest every day for at least 15 minutes. They were excellent at hatching eggs.
