➡I accidentally bought Balut eggs: 2 live ducks! Now a Chat Thread!

Thanks Chip!

I held these eggs.
I saw movement for 4 straight days.
There is not doubt in my mind that these would have hatched had I not screwed up the temps.

NO DOUBT.

I once said I will never hatch.
I didn't plan this experiment and I was so not ready to try out hatching but it happened.
And it happened fast.

I am never going to forget anything that I learned and I don't think I could have learned some of these thing had I not had this experiment.

I am 110% sure I will hatch again.
What I need to figure out is if I am going to hatch balutties or not.

RIGHT THIS second I am thinking I will hatch balutties just to prove to myself that it can be done.

This may not be what everyone want to hear but...how could I possible live with myself having failed at something like this.

Kiki doesn't fail.

Oh my.
I better stop before you all think I am nuts!
Just can’t resist…

I'm very sorry about your baluts. I was disappointed when I first read what happened but now I'm excited that you're willing to try again. I hope you'll try to rescue more if you can find another batch of live ones. Quail would be awesome too. If you build or buy another incubator, surely you'll have to try hatching more than once?

Shoot.
Shoot.
Shoot.

I'm cry babying now.

I'm going to sign off for now.
:hugs

Who's gonna break the new to the aliens?
:lau:gig:lau

This bug is like a disease isn't it?
It's Banty I'm telling you! She spreads it everywhere!

It gets a tad better after a few thousand eggs, but you never grow out of it.

I vote for more balut babies!
I would very much like to see if they would actually hatch. . . . but. . I'm afraid it may be more heartbreak for Kiki. :(
And who knows if they would be born healthy? Then she would be faced with the decision of keeping a special needs pet or cull.:hmm just saying, some points to ponder. :idunno
I do think she should hatch SOMETHING though :old

Look it up it's a awsome game seriously it is! also got my brinsea working keeping a steady temp the hubby also siliconed in the tubeing I took from a spray bottle last night (UK time and how the heck did it jump for 168pgs to 200pgs+ in a few hours omg!). It's 4:15 am here and the hubby decided to check on the chickens in their house by shining a bright light on them.. guess who is crowing!

Even with a dedicated incubator, it seems very stressful. I remember following a thread (Blooie's) and thinking I wouldn't have the nerves to incubate myself. I let my girls do it...
If you have another go, I'd get eggs from a proper breeder to ensure they are as healthy as they can be and have been handled well to maximise the chances of success and good health.

Yeah, but I had a blankie fort, crayons, and unending snacks to soothe my frazzled nerves and console me when things went south.

Kiki, I’ve always liked you, but my respect for your tenacity, humor, ingenuity and compassion has soared throughout this thread.

Now, IF you decide to try again, and IF you choose to go the balut route again, and IF you go back to that same market to get them, and IF you take a flashlight with you to candle before purchasing, please please please take videos of the poor confused shopkeeper watching this mad woman holding a flashlight to each egg and muttering to herself!
