Naval Jelly can be used to take the rust off. You can then paint it using the Rustoleum Rusty Metal Primer. After you have it primed you can then paint it with something like Rust-Oleum Rubberized Undercoating.I might just do that if I have to buy another but hated to just toss it if it were unnecessary. Trying to dig up some way to get the rust off and safely seal it to stop more from forming but I just don't know if it's possible. Maybe I'll find some repurposed use for it. I hate plastic crap though!

I don't think it was bad advice, I think they didn't understand the anatomy. :iduuno.What a nightmare! Possibly caused by bad advice. I'm terrified of giving bad advice so decided to cover my bases!
