➡I accidentally bought Balut eggs: 2 live ducks! Now a Chat Thread!

So Metzer sells balut eggs on their site at day 17... I wonder if this means it's some sort of magic accepted number for balut
I'm going to have to request that the man ask his supplier.
I really need to know now.

Was there any indication they were uncooked? I thought by definition balut is already boiled. It would be a bad surprise to open one raw, and to allow them to die and sit prior to cooking them doesn't sound great either. I read up a little on it. Although the thought of it is very, very squicky to me, so many connoisseurs consuming them for the "tasty" broth and delicate meat probably aren't wrong.

Shizzle sticks. I just messed up an egg.i hit it on the flash light.

I did some reading. It sounds like about 18 days is average, but some prefer them older. After 20 or so days you will start to get cartilage and feathers. I think that's pretty hard core but some people prefer the older ones. So, apparently there are options depending on your taste.
