100 Broilers and Fermented Feed Project

I have 2 cornish x chicks and would like to get a few more HOWEVER the 2 pullets are not pulling their wieght-- none of their eggs are fertilized. The roosters do not go near these bowling balls-- I've tried two roosters so far, No3 is in with them now. Or rather, the girls are in his run/coop.

If anyone has a suggestion to help these pullets please speak up.

What breed/s are the roosters?
Do one or the other need their cloaca trimmed?

I tried 2 EE that I know are busy boys--put 2 brothers in 6 x 6 pen with 3 pullets. Set every egg-- 4 developed, 2 hatched. White leg feathers!! THey were raised in a barn with black copper marans and one got the job done. ( MIght need to take girls back to that barn! ) However only 1 hen produced viable eggs as the chicks hatched from the same colored eggs ( and the two that didn't hatch were of the same color egg shell.) ALL other eggs-- about 12 were clears. Returned 2 EE to their original flock. One pullet died-- the one giving me the fertilized eggs-- all the clears are from the remaining pullets.

Current boy: Opened door to BO coop. One buff Orpington rooster, with his 5 BO pullets/hens.The current boy had a ton of chicks last year. Will collect eggs again and set. Not expecting this to work.

Basic question-- I assume if an egg can get out, the sperm can get to destination, right?

The sperm stays in the sperm storage glands inside the cloaca until the next egg passes and squeezes some out when it makes its way to the infundibulum. That should have happened by now.

I assume you've opened the eggs checking fertility.

You are busy with all of the hatching. I have not hatched one single thing this year and I am not complaining. The turkeys and geese have started laying and I have a turkey setting on goose eggs and I think she is on turkeys eggs as well. The guineas and peas should start laying soon. I guess I better dust off the incubator and get it ready soon.

My ganders sound like yours. The ganders have been fighting like crazy. They have injured one and he has been in rehab for a week now. I hope he makes it. My group of geese are meaner than a pit bull on steroids.

I want to take a break this year from ALL hatching but I know that I can't. I'm just not into it this year. I need to rest my brain for the year.

I think all of my 7 ewes are pregnant, so I guess I will be having lamb in the future. Last year I had 2 sets of twins and had to bottle feed 2. That almost killed me. I'm hoping for more males again, so I can put the meat in the freezer.

Work never ends for us huh.

Do you sell your lamb meat? I adore lamb. We used to eat it all the time in the UK. Doesn't seem as readily available over here.

There is 1 place that I would recommend as far as buying fresh lamb and goat and it's this place listed below. They have THE MOST BEAUTIFUL meat that I have EVER seen in my life !!!!!!! And it's delicious. I have purchased meat there before a couple times to see if the taste measured up to the look of the meat and it did.

They also have a place in there that sells REAL Mexican food. It's not the Taco Bell kinda Mexican food. It's the real stuff. You order your food at the cash register and then go and pick it up. The only catch is that they speak limited English, so you will either have to know how to speak the language or get someone to order for you.

The grocery store part is amazing. So much of a variety. If you go, make sure that you have a least an hour to spare. You won't want to leave.

Thanks for the recommendation! I will check it out on Saturday when we head down that way.

Actually, I set every egg. Just in case one is finally fertile.

x2 I have 50 different breeds . 25 coming end of March and other 25 at end of April. Not the CX from I'm a total newbie so a big learning experience for me.
