12 week old rainbow ranger, trying to decide if it's a pullet or a young roo. I bought these at TSC and the only other one that was patterened like this was obviously a roo at about 7 weeks (hackle and saddle feathers, big comb). I think it's a pullet but that one big tail feather has me worried. Thoughts?
If it is a cockerel, I would say late developing. An actual side standing shot so I can see how it holds it tail naturally might help. I have had some girls with a tricky looking feather.
It's a pullet. She's just molting out her tail feathers. That comb is still very pale and undeveloped and there are no patches of darker red through the shoulder area.
If those tail feathers were male specific sickle feathers, the hackle and saddle feathers would also be very visible. You have a very pretty pullet with no trace of male feathering.
