latest update:
waiting on 5 GA Dels to pip, the 4 Orps to pip and everyone to zip
We have the one hatchling trying to get the others to hatch so he/she won't be lonely

2 more of the PA Dels have pipped and at the small end again, both of them. The first PA Del is out with our help and has not absorbed all of the yolk

we have him/her in a tupperware container in the bator in ICU (intensive chickcare unit). He/she seems okay for now, breathing is not labored and is chirping and kicking from time to time. I think for being premature and breech, this little one has been through alot. We are keeping a close eye on him/her and praying for the best. Realistically, I give him/her 50/50 chance.

I had a period of hatches last year where my Orps were pipping on the wrong end and it hadn't happened previously. The parents were in molt at the time so I upped their nutrition with Game Bird Breeder crumbles and that seemed to solve the issue. It may happen again, or happen from time to time, but the pipping on the wrong end can be related to what's happening with the parents at the time.

It does seem like something odd is going on with the PA eggs. It looks like more than coincidence that 3 of 3 pips are all at the wrong end

I trust your opinion that it could be nutrition related. One thing we noticed is that the shells on the PA eggs are lighter than yours and have a rough texture compared to yours

It does seem to point to diet or health of the parent stock IMO. But I am still learning, so any and all thought are appreciated

Yes, they are little divas, those Orps. Always late to the party. They're coming! They're coming! The Delawares are coming! Yippeee! Now, they'd better all hatch so Jim can feel like his trip was well worth it.

Holy $#!* I just got an email from Ideal poultry that my order shipped today

It wasn't supossed to ship until Wed.

So, in addition to the eggs hatching, we got Barred rock pullets, RIR roo and pullets, 2 EE's and 2 Danish Brown leghorns for a total of 12 new chicks.
5 almost 6 Dels from GA have hatched now.
One more pipped, and one Orp pipped.

So, 17 GA Dels left to hatch, 3 Orps left to pip and all 4 need to hatch, still only 2 pips on the PA eggs, so 10 to pip and 12 to hatch for a grand total of 52 chicks

The one PA hatchling has started to absorb that yolk and is looking much better. Not completely out of the woods but it looks 75% better. We will leave him/her in ICU until the yolk is completely absorbed so that the controlled humidity will help keep that yolk sack from drying out.

Jimmy wanted me to mention that the Orp egg pipped as soon as he started playing Johnny Cash music to them. He shut off my classical music and thinks the country music got them moving

I personaly don't like country music and I told him they were protesting to him to turn it off
