Here are the 3 blue orpingtons. The first one is really dark compared to the others!

A good indicator of gender for most breeds is to look at the thickness of each chick's legs. Here are the 3 blue orpingtons. The first one is really dark compared to the others! View attachment 2355267View attachment 2355268View attachment 2355269
They're the show type. I have one that's 9-10 months old, & hasn't laid an egg yet. But she may wait until spring.@MysteryChicken Thats exciting you got the heritage barred rock. Those look beautiful in their photos!
He/ she isnt going anywhere anytime soon anyway. Just curious on others thoughtsI just say wait for a couple weeks.
It might actually be a pullet, but his/her eyes and face say otherwise...so idk. This was ordered as a pullet from the hatchery. But at 2 1/2 weeks old is looking very much like a boy. I have been suspicious since the day they arrived this one was huge! With legs much larger. And its comb seems a little bigger each day. View attachment 2355121View attachment 2355122
I had 7 hens and all of them had combs. I currently have 8 chicks, hopefully pullets as advertised, but they also have combs. This was ordered as a pullet from the hatchery. I will second that as well for my Black : Lavender Orpingtons. Very slow growers on combs waddle and all. My pullets are 21 weeks and still have very small combs comparably. The giant
no.. its the only one. This batch has ameraucanas, australorps, and this lav orp.
I have only raised the buff orpingtons before. So no experience with a lavender. All buff orp pullets that i have raised were very slow to grow their combs compared to my other breeds
