2 day old chick won't move and stands still in 1 spot breathing hard.

that is actually so sad when I was reading what you wrote it sounded like she was getting better. then when I read what happened I was actually crying so much.

I been through alot this last week, people dying of covid-19, my home health aid having a stroke, SSI annoying me trying to take my stimulus check, had to take in my friend his wife kicked him out and about 5 other things i won't mention I figured the chicks would have helped but that was just the topper,I have not been right for a few days. but i'll be ok eventually. its one of them months where you just want to get on a rocket ship and go live alone on the moon.

yes. under the light its 92 and on the other side of the brooder its 94. its odd the red lamp don't seem to get it to 95, there is no drafts either. i don't know why. i guess the light is crap. it says its 250w but not getting a full 95 degrees.
the brooder is 2ft by 2ft by 1foot tall i angled it so its not too hot but if i try to adjust it more it touches the wood and gets a bit scary they will shake it and break the glass. I don't got a long cord and it says not to use on an extention cord. my setup worked for my first flock. its a new bulb but just can't seem to get it at 95 but one side is 94 and under the lamp 92 so there is a range
I have 2 brooders and a coop/run. the chick brooder is 2ft x 2ft x 1 ft, the next one is a 5ft by 5ft cube cage for when they get bigger and need more space
I must agree with @Kiki the brooder is too hot. 2wk old chicks, if kept inside, I would aim for 85F and let the "other side" be as cool as possible.
The whole brooder does not need to be that warm, chicks need to be able to get away from heat. Think of it this way - if chicks are with a Mother Hen, they don't stay under her 24/7 - they get out run around, eat/drink, etc. when they need to warm up, the go under her and snuggle in for a while, then back out they go.

If possible, I would go ahead and move them to the larger cage - more room to get along and it will be easier to regulate the temps. Put the food/water on the cool side of the brooder and make one end warm.

I'm very sorry for your loss and that you are having troubles dealing with other things in life as well :hugs

they can't go in the big cage yet. the cage is large holes. they would fall through it.
its hand made using chain link fence.
when you are poor like me you recycle recycle recycle everything when building stuff lol

The first chick I lost I was holding her. I felt horrible that I asked my gusband to hold the second one for a minute while I helped bring the other babies in from their outside play yard. She passed in his hands. It takes a lot to make my hubby cry but that did it. It was a tough week. Lost 8 of my flock to a pair of fox the week before. We have lost one of my chicks from each brood we have had this year. First my little scissor beak girl crawled under her sisters and she suffocated. We lost a silkie with the next batch. Dont know what happened to her. My daughter was holding her and she seized and passed. Never lost babies like we have this year. Now we have a baby goat that has a repiratory infection that we can't get rid of. We just keep on keeping on. All we can do is love them while we have them and make sure they know it. This too shall pass...

Oh, I see. Nothing wrong with that at all. I have a stash of many things, believe me - I save lots of stuff and re-purpose it.

Hmmm...what is the 2X2 made of - any way to expand it? If I have chicks inside, I use cardboard boxes, this makes it easy to "expand" if I need to - cut out an end and tape another box together.

Omg...i have an escape artist goat. We have found so many things around the house to mend and patch the fence its hilarious lol. She still gets out the little turd. The one on the left is my houdini, lilo. The other is Nani, she's too fat to jump the fence so she just tattles on her sister and then yells at her from inside the fence. We are never bored here lol. Hope this.offers a little comic relief. I love my babies. They can always make me smile

i made it out of 2x2in wood posts and wrapped it on the outside with 1/16th square aluminum
mesh fencing so i can move them outside with the hen so she can get used to them and not kill them( my friends idea to introduce the chicks to my 2 year old hen. I can't expand it, i didn't think of using a card board box. figured the heat lamp would catch it on fire.

I found an extention cord and now i can put the lamp properly. so i moved them into the bathroom in the tub. i also took out the divider to see if they going to be aggressive with the lower temp and for 5 mins sooms ok now. the chick is being nice and not fighting
and now both are scare of me and not attacking me.
