Detailed numerical questions from the sticky listed at the bottom.
Issue is our 20 week old Sapphire Gem is having really odd laying problems. We thought perhaps it was numerous chickens but finally caught her laying 3 soft eggs in one day recently. She acts normal outside of randomly laying multiple soft eggs per day…On the roosting bar at 1 am, laying multiple soft eggs at a time in the run, etc…despite supplementing Calcium + D3, feeding her Nutrena layer feed, and oyster shells..
Without notice she will close her eyes periodically and appear to strain for a few minutes, and plop, 2-3 soft eggs fall out.
She also given hen boost as well in addition to freshwater.
We are going to isolate her for a few days in a kennel and see how much she is really laying, and ensuring she can hopefully rest away from the flock of 12. She is in a run that has 300sq feet and large coop with all hens and no cockerels.
This is our 2nd year with birds and outside of giving more calcium we have 0 idea what to do, if this is a terminal condition, or just a wait and see young chicken thing?…
Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated, thank you so much for your time.
1) Type of Bird: 20wk old Saphire Gem, normal weight and size
2) Average behavior, outside of pecking / feather picking occasionally of other flock mates.
3) Symptoms have been going on for 3 weeks, since she began laying.
4) No other birds are exhibiting the same problem.
5) No trauma
6) No known events or cause.
7) Currently eating Nutrena Layer Crumble + Hen Boost water + oyster shells + recently giving Calcium citrate + D3 orally
8) Poop is normal
9) Extra calcium
10 ) We want to treat the best we can with home care.
