Oh okay vkyar.... I thought your talking about a checklist to use during a poultry show, since you made reference to the Alexandria show and tags. Like I said I don't know what all involves with showing poultry. No we have not agreed upon a date yet. I have 5 individuals that I talk with via email, just have to wait and see what they say.

Quote: Form part of my email that i sent out.... so far I only got one reply back..they said both those dates are fine..just have to wait for the other to get back with me. I know one is currently out of town.

Just want to see if we all can set up a meet n greet some time in the future. It can be anywhere, at any place so we all can sit down and everyone can pitch in there ideas and thoughts.

"yes we can move it to either the 18th ( a week from now) or the 1st (3 weeks away) if that's alright, i want a date that everyone interested in this might be able to come together on, that way we all can share idea's together and get everyone's opinion and do what's best :) "

Would any of those dates work to set up a meet n greet? The place is yet to be determined. I know that a few do have kids and might be bring them along. So kid friendly places are preferred.

i have to go check the facebook page

I am new to south west Louisiana and am looking for some poultry events in the area. I was wondering if anyone could provide information on any events in the area or was interested in putting something together.

Maddi Williams
Hi Maddi! I'm near Lafayette and Carencro. I can't find anyone around here with Black Australorp chicks or hens. i too would appreciate more info on southern louisiana.

Please explain what are all the test that need to be done on the chickens and when they should be taken care of...sorry I'm a newbie when it come to showing. :hmm really there where mites at last year fair!?! Ewww, umm ya need more info on how to prevent mites and if they do have them how in the world do you get rid of them.

Checklist?? What list? Kudos for getting the info for the Alexandria show, but no one has made a list of well anything for showing or the club yet that i know of. We can make sure to discuss this at the meet n greet that there be a checklist in the making. Looks like I need to start writing stuff down that we need to discuss at the gathering.
Use diotomacious food grade earth, also know as DE. Add it to the nesting boxes and dust baths to get rid of mites.

Yikes!! Mites are horrible!!

Do you dust your pens with Food grade Diatomaceous Earth? Ever since the derrider pound said they use it. I went ahead and bought some, dusted the dog area, chicken pen and all there food. Nice way to keep the bug population under control. Especial those pesky ants..
I have ants running in the kitchen, i have tried everything but DE. thanks for the suggestion!

Your welcome..i hate ants!! if i see an ant hill i sprinkle it on top of it...epically when they try to make a hill close to the chicken pen. Nothing is worse when walking out there and getting bitten up by ants. I also sprinkle it in corners and such in my laundry room.

I don't know what is up with Facebook Today...tried to post on there and got kicked off saying having problems with the site. Trying to make sure everyone know that we are trying to set up a meet n greet. Also created a temp logo to use for the FB page or for anything till we all agree on the club name and real logo. Created in 10 minutes with paint.

Hi All,

I spent the morning with my chickens. Finally had some time to check my email. I think I have read all the 'show' related posts since my last visit. Here is some more info on the "testing" . . .Shows should all require Pullorum testing but some of the smaller ones don't bother. I have only seen a state tester show up once at one show as long as I have been showing. A lot of APA/ABA shows offer testing on the day of the show or the day before, but that can be a bit stressful to your birds and if you have white birds you are pretty much guaranteed to get blood stains on those pretty clean white feathers. It is best to get a 90 day certificate that will get you though most of the shows for any given season - - or even better get your flock tested and certified. We are VERY fortunate that Louisiana is one state that does not charge for this - and it is easy to get done. Get your flock tested and you are good to go for swaps, shows, shipping eggs and birds, here or in most other states (in most cases).

The Rapides Parish Show looks fun - but I have never seen a fair have you fill out your own cage tag before - that would certainly save a lot of work for the show secretary! We usually do that for you, and when you arrive at a show you just put your birds in the cage that has your coop- tag hanging on it. Does anyone know who is judging the Rapides Fair show? And are they APA or ABA carded?

I don't visit message boards very often so if anyone has a show question that someone else can not answer, just email me, and I can post the answer here if you wish.
