2013 Chicks Picked Out!

billyb, we are getting barbanter hatching eggs from marquisella. Ideal and The PoultryHatchery has them,but they are sold out until May last time I checked.

I ordered California whites, white leghorns, black australorps, barred rocks, and buff orpingtons. Cant wait for them to arrive!

I will get whatever the feed store has. Going to buy local to get started.

I would like to get good egg producers mainly. Reds, Sex Links, and the like are top of my list. Pretty sure the store will have something along those lines. They usually have a deal where you get some free chicks when you buy a bag of feed. Need the feed anyway and free is a good price.

I may call and see if they will add any special requests to their normal chick order.

I may buy some meat birds later in the season if things go well. Will probably get one of those frying pan specials from a hatchery for that.

I'm placing a small order locally for 4 pullet chicks (EE, Dominique, and speckled Sussex) to add to my small flock. Just waiting to hear back on the pickup date. The kids seem to be hoping that we get an accidental rooster again like we did the first time we ordered chicks (1 cockerel out of 14 and he was good with people, just not so good with the hens). They've already named him Buford.

So exciting! This will be our first ever set of chicks.. We have 3 20 week old red stars who aren't yet laying.

are your guineas friendly most people say they arent but mine let me pet and hold them except 2 of the females

I wish Bantams would be sold as Pullets! Not St. Run like at TSC. Who agrees?

They were already 8-10 weeks old and kind of wild when we got them, so I'm a little surprised they became this tame. Guess we got lucky.
