My adorable bantam Ameraucana/EEs layed their first egg today! Cute little blue thing! The size of the Serama eggs!

Maybe they will end up in the Hatch-A-Long.

Got my eggs!! They are warming up to room temp as we speak.

One box got pretty badly beaten up, and I was surprised when no eggs were broken. But I Wonder how many were scrambled. For the 12 I *ordered*, I rec'd 14. Then the second box was supposed to be 16 eggs. Got 22!! Husband is pretty upset by the numbers because he's certain half will hatch

. I told him not likely.

Edit: cuz braining is hard sometimes.

Well I thought day 4 was a little early to candle, but the incubator didn't smell exactly right. Glad I did because I found one oozing, opened it up and it was BLACK inside, bleh . . . . I'm guessing it was really old. Now I'm worried for the rest of the eggs, I have a feeling it's not going to be a good hatch

K. Official candling results: a lot of partially detatched/saddle air cells on all eggs. The brown eggs specifically: One was cracked. No fluids seeping, membrane not punctured so I put some clear nail polish on it... will have to get a yogurt cup to put it in. Don't know if i should just toss it now or try to see if it develops. One marans egg had a totally rolling air cell, but several had fairly stable air cells surprisingly, barely jiggly.

I just found out that the chicken processing place in town doesn't do it anymore, I guess we are on our own with our meaties! Hubs says this year we will do the simple drill chicken plucker and then next year make a real one.... this OUGHT to be ridiculous with this many birds and my wrists!

I have been going back and forth back and forth and decided that I cant processes and now THEY CANT! GO FIGURE!!
