If it weren't so expensive to ship outside the EU I would totally donate some homemade canned apple pie filling and homemade canned hand pie filling/applesauce to the contest prizes. I'm making some today and I can never stop eating it straight from the pot, and I love to share the goodness with people. :(

Hi Sally......... avatar is my female black neck swan back in May 2015. Picture is how she looks today with male in background.

my chickens may think I am supper?

at this point neither am I...I calibrated the glass ones in ice water...bought four and two for humidity...with the ones that came with the bator one would think they would be correct....going shopping online again ..

It's fun watching everyone hatch! And the quips have been great
Have a good night y'all

it is frustrating, arent any calibrating the same at this point lol?

I have 6 days left on the batch of b.o.'s and I was going to start another batch of them on the 10th but I've been looking at light sussex and cream legbars all day. LS could be crossed with buffs for sex links and CL lay pretty blue eggs. Oh and I also want to hatch ducks too but had planned on waiting until spring but there are a few local sources that are still offering hatching eggs now so.. Oh the choices are too much for me! DH thinks just hatch more buffs as 'they are the breed you said you wanted to focus on' .. um yeah but..

but there are sooooo many kinds of ducks, let me see you need ancona, and runners and and and well you will need all of them I think!

lol, hatchaholic! Totally know the feeling. Me and DH keep going over what are going to be in our multiple coops in the spring.. and I've got 3 different breeds in the incubator now! lol

I'm in i love Halloween! What a perfect excuse to set more eggs.

In 4 days about 14 eggs will hatch under my broody! Anyone else hatching around this time?
I am not sure when I will set for sure, still debating what when

and now silkiechicken says her pilgrims are laying and i sent a text to see if anyone can use some geese lol.... yeeee gadssss I sure dont want any geese for eatin my kids are hunting more than enough wild birds right now. If I had access to white muscovy duck I may think about hatching some, but thats about it. or turkey. I am such a turkey aint I?

Ooh see I've one spare chicken coop that I could use for a different breed that can hold 35 maybe and we have built a duck enclosure elsewhere with pond and all that's empty and waiting and I suppose I could always build more coops and just get all of them? But then I'm sure I will want more lol. Multiple coops yes that sounds awesome!

OH I'm sunk.........was counting how many coops to separate out for the hatches, past and present...... LOL

At this point I'm at a loss............Total of 5 pips yesterday/day early. First one literally pipped, zipped and was out and running. The other 4 ..........wait........wait.....finally around midnight I open and check bator eggs.....the ones left that pipped was overdue. They were shrink wrapping. Even the inner membrane was dry! Hygrometer says 75 on one and yes, 80 on the other one...started trying to keep the 65 but it actually LOOKED too dry in there. Maybe I should just go by initial feelings and toss the hygros........

I turned OFF the fan, wrapped the little ones in burritos ....this morning they were all out and ready to face the day. There are 15 eggs!!

Seriously getting frustrated. I am going by all the great info and had everything fine tuned...bator set and stabile.

So, am wondering about these last 10 eggs. MAYBE THE FAN was too much for the area? We'll see. I'm ordering yet more hygro's. If I take the middle of all of them surely something will be right.........I am thinking about putting a hole in one of the remaining 10 due today to make sure they are wet.....with the fan off there is now humidity on the bator so this could be the culprit.........

The burritos were clean hatches, the shells were dry but babies were ready. I hope I can get this all fine tuned before I give up on hatching.....

oh that would be cool!!!

I don't know where it is. I think i did way back there. I did go ahead and open a hole to see what was going on with the others due to the last ones being so dry. They were ALL shrink wrapping! I saved 6 of them out of the remaining 10. More burritos.....Sally I'm almost positive now it's the fan. This is hatch day, and I'm glad I checked on them. The early birds seem to have no issues with legs, etc and no naval issues either. I have more to set today...........following my post about being a stupid newbie and setting them too close together early on..........the fan will stay off and with everything gone over this has to be the issue....

I know I said hands off this one because i THOUGHT everything was perfect..........well.........nope. So 11 out of 15, or is it 10 out of 15....will go check uhg. no sleep. Waiting on my burritos to bake.......
hu.gif

These are all barnyard mixes but I have my Silkies coming up in a few weeks and have been waiting for this for a long time
fl.gif
I have to get this right......
