The PO has been re organized over the past couple of years. I think all POs can hold packages now. Here in Davis, They will hold them at the main PO. If it is being shipped to a store front, then the main one will call.

They told me that writing on the box will not hold it since it is not official. You can of course write it, but the sender needs to put the hold on the box. The person being shipped to cannot call up the PO and have them hold it for them either.

It has to be the shipper that request it. The shipper has usually shipped incorrectly if the box is not held so once again, the shipper messes up and blames the PO for their error. Not saying that the PO does not do things wrong but they are an easy target for covering mistakes by the shipper.

I do request it, and they more often than not refuse the request on the grounds that the eggs are not being sent to a designated holding facility. Sounds like Davis has it together. Wish they all did.
They will hold packages just through common courtesy if you write on the box. Some would rather make a it a point not to since it's not official.

I think a lot depends on the local postmaster too. They can decide to play strictly by the rules or they can be as helpful as they can because that's what kind of person they are.

I don't believe I'm shipping incorrectly if they refuse to hold the box. I have done everything I can do. And I'm not using the PO to blame my mistakes on....

Out of the 11 eggs I candled last night, only ONE was developing. Boo.

1000

You are doing what you can and correctly. I was not saying that you were not shipping correctly.

I just see a lot of posts where eggs are packed poorly, in egg cartons and tissue paper in a single box and then they blame the PO when the eggs are delivered broken and cracked.

Yes, the PO has a lot of problems too.

I had good luck calling my post office and requesting they hold the package for me, and picked it up from them. I understand not everyone can do this, however it does reduce the eggs bouncing around in a mail truck all day.

@Sally Sunshine How old is your Springer? Idiopathic epilepsy comes on usually between 1.5-5 years old (and have heard of other variants ex: 2-7 depending on who you talk with). Also, if there has ever been a previous injury, that can play into it, we had a dog that was hit by a car growing up that developed seizures because of TBI. I know when Dozer started his seizures, we ran the full bloodwork, was offered the MRI but was told not to bother with it because the vet we use is the one his breeders used, and they had some inside knowledge that his genetics were playing a part of it as well...

It's never easy, I've hung out on canine-epilepsy.net researching meds and other treatment/maintenance issues. Great support/info there for the next Dr visit. Once the valium is out of her system, and she gets adjusted to her meds, she'll be acting normal again. It does take a week or 2 for them to adjust to the meds. Dozer has become a water horse since he's been on his meds, will drink quite a lot during the day, and is always hungry (but that is nothing new!)

I do believe it helps with the eggs, so always worth the try. You have a cooperative postmaster :)

Oh my goodness Sally! Hugs for you. I can't believe how well you hold up with all that is going on, and that, on top of your own health issues. You are a great example to me for sure!

That last egg in the video actually looks like it may be on only day 15 to me. Quite a bit of space left there between the air sac tip and body.

Hope you get that one to hatch..love a big blue egg! If it hatches well, you have to post that one..saying, here is the big blue egg baby. :)
