2019 Emu Hatch-A-Long

Pics
Day 52 bullet egg hatched healthy and happy. Pictures to come. Is there any way to tell males from females besides DNA? He is still really wet and taking a while to dry.

Congrats!

Some people can vent sex, but that can be dangerous. I'd just do DNA sexing. It's $11.99 to have it done with the egg shell.

Baby 1 pic.2 and 3 hatching.

I think this one is a female but that is just a guess I am not gonna hurt the baby teying to go all up in its buisness though lol. I saved the shells from her egg. I am going to send in. I was reading males have different feather pattern. I was wondering if they were sex linked or if that was even true. lol

Not true :) Is it the old 'bullseye on the head' myth? That definitely doesn't work. My male didn't have a bullseye, and my female didn't have 'a defined pattern of lines'. That myth, I think, is coming from the Red Oak Farm website. After talking to emu breeders, I now think that that myth is not the only questionable info on the website, either.
