These heating pads are what I use for my MHPs. I just started using MHPs this year. They have no auto shut off, and mine has held up to two batches of messy ducklings, 1 batch of chicks, and 2 batches of quailies. I even ran it outside for the chicks for a few weeks while they adjusted to the outdoor temps. It works great. I bought a second one so I can have 2 running at once. I really dislike heat lamps, mostly because of the fire hazard but also because they disrupt the natural sleep schedule and are so bright and hot.
With the MHPs the chick can regulate its own temp, there's not as much fire hazard, it's nice and dark and imitates a hen, doesn't disrupt their sleep schedule, and my chicks were much more active and feathered out so much faster with the pad than a lamp.
Sorry Nifty, this was not a "brief" description... But I'm not very good at keeping my posts short. Lol.
Here's the pad I use. https://www.amazon.com/Sunbeam-Ultr...g+pad&qid=1600884231&sprefix=sunbeam+h&sr=8-5
I need another roll because my brother's one year old Great Dane was, ahem, not being watched very closely around mine (my brother technically needs to buy the replacement roll, not me, lol) and he got ahold of it.
I always keep vet wrap handy because it's useful for so many things. Luckily I had a little left over to fix this keet's legs with today:
