3-4 w. old chick not eating/drinking

The sulfadim is available at most pet shops. Pretty much anywhere you can buy a budgie. Do you have the bag that the feed come in? What suburb do you live in ? I'm sure we can find somewhere closer for you. That is to get amprolium.
Near Auburn. I’ll check one of those Westfield pet shops

Not that I know of Albert7777....the only thing I know of as a preventative, is the medicated feed, and once sick, the meds. I'm so sorry it's so far away :( Just keep doing what you have been doing and know you are doing your very best! Are you sure the feed store doesn't have any meds? Here, we buy a med called Safeguard liquid and it's for goats. Some OP's figured out how much to give to chickens, we call it "off label use" but it works. It's the Amprollium. sp? Not sure I spelled that right and I'm an adult LOL. It's late here. You could always ask your feed store if they do have the meds for "cocci" or something that blocks thiamine. The medicated feed bag label should have the name of if on it. In the future, just know that it's better to feed the medicated for a couple months after they hatch, so you don't lose any more batches of chooks. Wish I could help more

Try a Private Message to the lady that said she would help, as she lives closer than I do, if you don't hear back right away...that's the best way to get in touch with someone on these boards quickly and she sounds like she can help...wishing you the best of luck and glad you have someone who can help you better than me!!!

Thanks. The food bag is unlabelled but I’ve made some buttermilk and vinegar like advised and to seems to like it.

I have been looking at this and watching so now I am going to ask a couple
of questions what are you using for a brooder ,heat lamp what is the floor
made of news paper is best and a new layer put down daily is the brooder
at least two feet by two feet this is for them to run around for exercise all
baby's need this the feed needs to be medicated little bag $ 5 USD a little
sugar in the water but now the important thing as I believe you are young
and with out a lot of money try this use a hard boiled Egg and remove
what ever is not eaten the first day and maybe du this again the next day
all this is to give them what was in the egg from which they came now
yogurt is something you can try ........ Lets get them in a warm place as
this has a lot to do with health alright ......
Please tell us about your brooder set up so we can help...
Next please do not let other kids handle them for a wile and always wash
your hands before and after you handle them .........
Next go look up raising chicks ..........
Please write back.....

Ok cardboard box brooder, heat lamp is not red 250W, can’t find red. Floor for healthy babies is non grip flooring and some wood shavings, for the sick one is newspaper. I do put sugar in the sick ones water. Yes I have fed it hard boiled egg and I have given it curdled milk, I’ll buy it yogurt soon. Thanks. No other kids to handle so yeah. I am a germophobe so I wear gloves and wash a lot

You really do not need a 250 W bulb but if this is what you have great red is to slow down the pecking
and blue is the common color for my brooder all the light really is for is to bring them to the heat but
for your baby's all need the news paper floor for health reasons with out a mother as your chicks are
you need to do every thing for them and I am catching you have never dune this before correct .....
Alright box to contain them news paper floor for first two months for health reasons add to layers every
day or two water I am taking it you have an open container not a store bought waterier we can work
with that the chicks should never be able to stand in the water so put marbles in you container as the
beak will still be able to get water from in between the marbles now the food is important as well all
them baby's to be able to do get the beak in the food not the feet so a bowl not a plate and put something
anything in the middle to keep them out of the food ......
Do you have a way to check the temperature of their living area as a 250 W bulb could get them good
and hot and we just want to keep them warm not get them ready for dinner alright......
Now I am giving you all the simple directions you could find in any book for raising chickens ..........
If you have more questions just ask.......
If you could tell me how you had your set up for the chicks before you started today and what you
found you need to changed and what you are now doing ,,,,, Good luck ......

Yes, I put plenty of marbles all the time for both food and water. Don’t have thermometer though. They are falling asleep, and I will have to go to bed soon

Thanks for the advice.

Albert, I would advise to cut the sugar out...it will cause the chick more issues. Newspaper is fine for a very short time, for bedding, but your regular setup is the best...newspaper is slippery and cause leg issues, called "splayed leg" and is very hard to correct, if at all.

I think you are doing just great! Did you have any luck finding the meds? or talking your family into helping with the meds?

To Gander007, yes, this is a young person, caring for the families chooks and doing the very best he can! The biggest problem he is having is the expense of the meds and the distance is too far, to go get them. An other OP was trying to help him find the meds closer to him...the OP lives in Australia, so the names of meds can be different there, laws for dispensing them different...IMHO this young man is doing a great job, taking care of the chooks for the family and just needs a bit of help finding the right meds for cocci and a closer location...family is hesitant to help with cost of meds! He's doing a great job too, with what he has to work with!

I say find a local breeder and ask to borrow some meds. I have given amprolium, Sulmet, Safeguard and Baytril to locals before, maybe there is someone there that could do the same. Anyone with poultry, cattle, sheep or goats will probably have something that will work.

So there are quite a few pet shops about and most of them should have the suphadim. I googled " little valley poultry " and they have 100 g satchels of amprolium for $25 and that includes post Australia wide. Perhaps you have a kind hearted granny that might like to help you out.
