3 day old duckling with yuck eye straight out of shipment...

I have NutriDrench on hand!! (I’ll post a pic to confirm I have right variety)

Just a drop, undiluted/pure, and how often would you guys suggest I do this?

Obviously it could be too early to really know for sure but I just wish I knew what the development issue/deficiency is. Like, give me a Wry Neck, give me a Niacin deficiency, confirm her eyesight status and/or tell me whether it’s permanent, etc.

I cannot stand the ‘not knowing’ part. I am terrified that the wee peepster is gonn be deceased when my kiddo and I get up for her to hitch the bus to school. Cognitively, we understand that death is an inevitable outcome for life but just once I would like something/someone to pass from old age, peacefully, and known WHY.

Still begging the gods that they could tell me what it was that claimed Lucy a few months ago but I don’t think I’ll ever truly know. Goes back to wanting to know what’s up: if I can figure it out then maybe I can prevent worsening/total prevention.

By the way, these are rhetorical questions as I know you guys likely know about as much as I do as to what the problem is. No crystal ball :(

Oh! Here’s the version I have (and this crap smells awful but I’m blaming it on the molasses that is in it)

I've done twice a day, depending on how the chick responds, if it perks up right away, I give another drop an hour after the first because there was something it obviously needed in it.

In the instances where they parked up immediately (assuming there were some, sincs you mentioned it as an option) what was a before after observation?

And further, you gave them a drop of the NutriDrench and did you need to flush it down with them drinking some water, or no?

I guess I shouldn't have said "immediately" more like quick improvement. The chick that this happened to, had foot curling issues, a wide stance and was unsteady on its feet. After the first dose, the chick looked more perky withing 10-15 min or so and was trying to eat, where it was staying put under the heater plate before. It was also more steady on its feet.

No, I just set them down by the water for a few seconds to see if they want it. By this point they know where/what the water is because I dipped their beaks first thing. It's hit or miss if they take a drink or not, I give them the option and then I put them under the heater plate. I don't want to force more fluids than I have to.

How is the lil one this morning?

Be sure to contact Metzers again it's very important they know what is going on.

Allso you might want to start some B complex once the lil one responds good to the Nutri Drench Hopefully the Nutri Drench will get her up and going.

Update:

Late last night/soon after midnight, the two Cayuga babies had an increase in looking/acting better. I might add that the one Cayuga, who only had a very mild eye crust, is bigger than the other and ultimately I see no concerns with her other than the fact that they’re just so *tiny* compared to the Swedish Quartet LOL

Poor goop eye Cayouga is finally laying down And has done so a few times. She also had stopped her peeping noises. I was unable to get any relevant drops of NutriDrench down their mouths because neither one of them were interested in nibbling on it. I did not want to manhandle them to manually open their mouths as they seem so fragile and I don’t want to stress them out any further.

I’ve added the NutriDrench to their mash and I’ve continued the electrolytes (Sav-A-Chick).

Goop I, her left eye is almost clearly perfect but her right eye still has a tiny amount of squint do it. She appears to have lessened her symptoms of being blind… That or she has simply memorized her little brooder (LOL)but I’m thinking she can see a little better now. I will post an updated set of pictures in just a few minutes.

Between the water and food both having additives, Do you think that’s too much vitamins/minerals or is it okay?

You’re absolutely okay in using the word “immediately”… I didn’t think it was instantaneous like kryptonite and Superman (LOL) I gathered it was a period shortly after but was just checking to see if, like you said, it was about 15 minutes or if maybe a couple of hours.

so you’re OK and just fine :))

I’m thinking what negligible amount of the NutriDrench I dropped on their beaks last night may have given her the ‘gung ho’ enough that she’s had a bit of improvement. At least enough that she was more willing to move around and drink/eat. I did, also, put two small additional little containers of their electrolyte water in the brooder so that the poor thing doesn’t have to move around very far to get her nutrients, should she so choose to move around much.

I did leave a message on Metzer’s phone but I intend to try again today. I don’t think I can try, with any success, until around noon because of time difference as I believe they are about three or four hours behind my Indiana time. But yes I will absolutely contact them. I’m just glad that Goop was alive this morning and seemingly a touch more lively.

I was really in doomsday mode because when Grumpy himself is even sad and moping around the house in fret over the baby, then I’m left to do nothing but smoke and be sad as well.

I do have to yell from the mountain tops for anyone who will listen just how thankful and proud, and jealous LOL, I am that Grumpy’s been full-time snuggle duty for the babies (which also includes the Swedish quartet). Because I’m running around handling their brooder, vitamins, feed, OG and Patty’s living quarters, the kid, dinner, homework and goopy eye research. He is at least holding them and giving them One on one attention, warmth, supervision and companionship. It is nothing for me to walk in to the living room and he is sitting there with four baby ducks, or the two Cayuga infants, on his body somewhere LOL

And lords know they are absolutely enchanted with his beard.
