I don't know if I would call them or not....I would want to keep the bird, who knows? Maybe they would give you a refund for tripod. Or maybe you could help them with the new 3 legged meat chickens!!

I want to keep her, so yeah, maybe I won't call. Although I highly doubt they would want me to send it back.

Is that white on the chest and beard, or is that just the flash showing up as white on an all black chick? If it is the flash and the chick is all black with those dark legs and beak I would be willing to put money on it being a black star pullet. Another type of sex link chicken that lays big brown eggs.
Here is a shot of mine at 9 days old:

Once yours begins to feather out if it is a black star it may get a few random red feathers mixed in with the black.

It is white on the chest. Do they lay eggs as good as the red stars? Are their only differences their color?

Oooh, please don't. You see, with calf testicles, there is no bone connecting the testicle to the rest of the body. Not to mention the excrutiating pain it would cause. Not to mention the blocking of the femoral artery that runs through that leg.

I didn't think that sounded right, I guess I better go get that band back off. lol j/k

If it has a white chest than it is not a black star. Black star pullets are jet black all over. Maybe an Australorp. Both of them lay as well as the red stars do. Here is a shot of my Australorp as a baby:

She is the one in the center she is 8 days old in this pic and has the white wing tips. When they are day old that white is not there. When they grow up the white is not there either. Kinda strange the way they feather out. Looking at the legs of your black one they look like hers did too. Time will tell, in a few days if she has the white tips you know what she is.

Hey I wouldn't do it myself, just put it out there as an option. I am sure it is painful, probably for a calf too! I very much doubt the 3rd leg is functional or attached to the rest of the skeleton, most deformities like this are just kind of hanging there.
