In Jan . of 2016, I let a broody Buff, set on eggs the whole month -

Out of 3 eggs - 2 hatched - one didnt live long and only one made it, the Buff. made a great mamma hen

But 3 days later - the baby died - it had a problem with the umbilical cord, part, it was like its guts pooped out, it died

While she was still in mamma mode, I went to the feed store and got her some new chicks, 4 Barred Rocks

and at a week old mamma took them for a walk , in the mud

And the Barred Rocks were ok, much better than the Australorps,, but not as sweet as the Buffs.

but the Buffs got broody SO MUCH. One was for 6 months, many of the only laid for 2 years and then got broody and well, many were culled.

In November of 2017 we culled the whole flock. Between all of them we were getting 4 eggs a day.
So for the winter 2017 - 2018 my coop sat empty. And then in the spring I thought I would get Marans, the feed store was to get some in the end of May. So to the feed store I went on May 31st and much to my surprise, they didnt get ANY! All they had were:

LEGHORNS​

and this started my journey with Leghorns.
I am so glad I got them, they have been the easiest most wonderful chickens ever!!
