400 chickens STOLEN!

Is there any way that neighbors, friends and family could take up a collection for her? Or is there a local poultry society that could get involved?

I get so sad when I here about these things, because I can picture myself in her position so easily. I know exactly how devastated she must be.

Good idea will ask around, she has a lot of customers for her eggs perhaps they can help as well......watch this space.

I think people will take anything they believe they can steal and sell. I'm down to 2 hens which I am now trying to rehome because it is easier to just start over. I have had to start keeping my coop and run padlocked. And my car stays locked or gas dissapears.

It can only get worse. If I were constucting a coop with what I know now security would be a much higher priority. Show breeders with "valuable birds" have been coping with this for years, and build locked runs and secure indoor spaces into their designs. I am still trying to keep just a few birds but if I have to expand, I'm going to make it way harder to walk in and grab dinner.

Edited to say that I am VERY sorry about what happened to your freind. It struck a nerve with me because people here are in denial about these sorts of things happening here, and it makes visitors and newcomers vulnerable.

Needless to say, we don't have those kinds of issues here.

Bang Bang is right!!!! My part of Alabama is known for this.

I'm so sorry to hear about this and the padlock idea wouldn't have kept this type of crime from happening. The crime was carefully planned. What type of vehicle would it have taken to haul 400 birds? It is sounding like the place the birds came from. What about where she purchased her feed. Could info gotton out there? Something else to think about.

Most likely was PETA or ALF. They have been known to "Rescue" animals from farms and turn them loose. Silly twits, don't understand the fowl will perish without protection from humans. I think they have seen too many "Disney" movies or they just have a very twisted perverse mind.

How in the world did they remove 400 chickens without any noise?! If I go into my coop at night (and there are only 6 of them) they grumble and cluck and let me know they did not appreciate it. This is horrible! I feel bad for the lady. I hope they find out who did it. I can partially understand if an individual needs food (I prefer they ask, I would gladly help someone in need) BUT taking 400 chickens..Good God! Thats just an evil individual.

I had the same thought - that's a lot of chickens.

Ditto, that does seem somewhat impossible?? Wouldn't that have to be a pretty big operation? Big truck many people sort of event? Something seems a bit fishy???
