4th Annual BYC NYD Hatch-a-long

I would love to keep adding but I only have a 41 farm innovator...that's not even full cuz I didn't have enough eggs! Shoulda gotten some trader joe eggs lol!
Same here. Us crazies and our winter hatches! I'm debating on how many more leghorn I want to hatch out though. I really should get rid of my older hens (which is ALL of them except one) but I wanted to introduce some new blood too, and possibly get the browns. Ah well. I have one leghorn chick sleeping in the brooder beside me, plus about six more eggs in the incubator from the leghorns.

Ive got a couple of side projects im working on helping out some other byc'ers but I'v found the next project round here. going to add a gas heater to the small barn and move the brooders out there. Thinking if i set it around 50 with the heat lamps running it should be no sweat

Ya, city ordenance says we may have six laying hens, no roos, and that's it. :/  I want to buy some land... move out of our house and own at LEAST 2 acres... we've only got about 1/4 acre now... :/ Hopefully in the next 5 years we'll move and I'll be a happy camper. :)

I have about 1/3 of an acre. Thankfully the town I live in allows roosters....no limit....just no letting them run free.

Can't wait to candle n a few days...trying to wait until day 7 lol

I was candling trying to figure out what was supposed to hatch when, and thought "wow, I'm going to have a good shot at the worst hatch rate!" when I looked at my chicken eggs. Then I realized that they were only three days old and I hadn't looked THAT hard when candling them (just a quicky look since I was looking at ALL of the eggs in the incubator). Whew. I'd have been upset if they were all infertile, lol.

Ugh, I candled but I don't see anything yet :( I hope that's not the case! I did start out really slowly the first day. I didn't get it to 99 degrees until the second day, when I put a blanket on it deciding it wasn't gonna get there otherwise. It suddenly got cold this week and all my planning was for not! Now I've been keeping a blanket on the incubator and it's been running pretty smoothly. I just hope they're only a little behind and that I'll see some veins tomorrow??
