They should be fine. I bet they jump up when you tap the incubator? The important thing is to make sure the humidity stays up for the pipped eggs.

I thought you were through hatching It can take a day for them to fluff up.

yes s they jump when i tap? What does that mean? Is that good pr bad? And almost thru 2 fixm yo come out and ones piped. And unfortunately one that has been pipped for 36 hours but didnt break all the eay thru. No movement or chirping from that egg

Yes it is Good

They sleep a lot for the first couple of days.

The quiet one may not have made it. It could have pipped into a blood vessel or did not absorb the egg correctly. wait until all is finished with the hatch and then crack the eggs open(carefully you might still have one alive in there and see what happened.

I finished opening the dead eggs today and one of the chick's remaining yolk was very green. I'm assuming that means that bacteria invaded very late in incubation, but I want to confirm this with you guys. Are there any other causes for the remaining yolk to be very green?

The rest of the eggs looked like perfectly healthy chicks with just a bit of left over yolk. They should have hatched. Something went wrong with all the shipped eggs (and only the shipped eggs) at the very last minute. None of them even made an internal pip yet they were fully formed and postitioned correctly.

Hurley..nice pics! Your boys are so cute!!I have never incubated Muscovy eggs. Tell me how it goes for you. I have always let them just nest.

So far so good. Had one that was a clear. Have one with a detached air cell that was developing but today the veins are going away and the embryo is smaller than the rest, so looks like that one is quitting. Have one that has a crack that is developing along with the others. So far at nearly 2 weeks, I've got 12 good, 1 quitting, 1 clear. Not too bad. Last week's weights were a little light so I've added more humidity this week to try to even it out. Started misting and cooling for a period of time each day, as well.

Wish me luck! Never hatched ducks before and I've heard Muscovy are a special challenge.

They just do not have enough energy to hatch sometimes when they are shipped. Also, you do not have control of the parents health and nutrition with shipped eggs. It is just one of those things that happens. If they made it to being late quitters, you did a good job!

I had to move my Weeble back into the bator... Her brooder-mates have no respect for her disability. They were climbing all over her, and she seemed tired and weaker. Hoefully, she'll be OK in the bator in her Little box all by herself. Maybe in a day or two, she'll be strong enough to go back in with the others.

I had to do this with hairdo ( so named for her ginormous vaulted scull) ! She seemed to be cold she was peeping up a storm and shivering. She was NOT happy with me so I put her in with her friend that hatched earlier and gave her vitamins. Now she is sleeping. I need to ask someone about partridge genes, i keep getting partridge chicks and have NO idea how.

My chicks are still wet some more dry than others. But they hardly open their eyes at all is this normal?

They sleep a lot until they get over hatching. I wouldn't worry about sleepy chicks for the first few days, they are newborns.

My first Silkie hatched today...more than 24 hours later than the first egg (a Silkie cross)..I had just about given up on any more hatching....strange


I think I have a touch of the flu perhaps...or maybe I just ran my body too hard with sporatic sleep...I have slept and slept and slept...up just enough to eat and drink and take care of the animals... I have a low temp. 99.7 right now...It really is affecting my ability to do much of anything....

Sleep yourself! Your body heals itself while it is sleeping so if you want sleep and are feeling poorly do it if you can.

Just wantted to say congrats for all the new chicks.
My phone card runs out tonight and i wont beable to get one till next month.

So im gonna miss you guys.!!This has been great even though i only had one chick hatch.
I wanted to sign up for worst hatch but i never was able to get my pic of my one loan chick up.So since i wont get to get back on till feb(unless i can come up with my phone card money) im gonna with drawl my entry for worst hatch. Good luck you guys gonna miss you!!!

I have heard that chicks that do not make it out of the egg are more common in shipped eggs. ID guess it has something to do with air cells, but its just a guess.

Now back to DH yelling at doomsday peppers!

I have read every post, through the hatch, I think I've read most of the literature, and yet I have had the most bizarre thing happen today!
We had an egg partially zipped, it had been several hours, and all the mayhem around it, it was still peeping and moving inside the shell.

A couple of chicks jumped up on the partially zipped egg and it CRACKED IN HALF!!! The chick didn't get up, and the shell was still partially attached.
They were running over it, pecking at it, and eventually it cleared the shell, and started moving.

I noticed that it seemed to have a "thin bag of water" attached to it. Later as it tried to move around, I realized it was fluid under it's skin and the skin appeared to be sagging and there were no feathers on that part of the skin. It was like a water balloon, boy the skin is thin! It has been hours, and this poor little thing is still struggling to move, rests more than anything. also that leg is outstretched, the other is curled underneath it's body.

We removed all the chicks to give it a chance. Later, another chick hatched, it has been recovering so it has not bothered the injured chick.

Has anyone ever encountered this? seen this, heard of this? I am not holding out much hope...but tomorrow may bring a miracle.

I want to update, this chick lingered most of the day, moved a bit but mostly struggled. This afternoon it died. The watery sac was awful looking. Tomorrow I will post a couple pics.
Also, our other "sticky chick" we bathed also died tonight. Lots of sadness with the kids. It is hard to watch something come into the world and not survive.

yes all vents are opened with my extra vent also opened. Temp is at 99° andthey aren't dry yet also three more pipped. I didnt wanna open it to take them out plus. I dnt have any marbles or rocks for my water drinker. The last one just hatched at 10 pm. What do i do?

Ok, this is just me, I snatch the chicks out as they hatch. I did that with the nankin this morning, had a pip later in the day with the largest egg...that chick has now hatched. I just get the chick out fast. I have found that they look pretty miserable in the bator with the heat and humidity up so high. They sometimes literally pant. So, I just take them out now. The humidity is up, I open quickly and put the baby .. yes..wet...into the nice warm brooder. They always do fine. I have not lost one to being put into the brooder wet. I make sure they can't leave the warm area of the light. Like I said, that's what I do.
