EWWWW the other day my barred rock ate a frog...alive....it was trying to hop out....argh.

OMG I love it! Too funny. Mine eat mice and that is gross but a frog?? That would be just funny to see.​

I usually hang out with them in the pen when they go to roost and at first I thought she had the hiccups...then I realized...chickens don't hiccup. Oh heavens it was so gross. I have a touch of claustrophobia...just the thought of that frog in there in the dark trying to get out......ACK I had to leave. I was freaked. She would settle down and close her eyes and then it would jump and nearly knock her off the roost and then she would have to re-settle and then.....I left.

They found a cricket in their brooder and we video'd 11 minutes + and watched them running around taking that cricket from each other. It was the funniest thing! The kids wanted to catch crickets for them to eat so they'd be entertained! Would it be ok for them to eat a bunch of crickets at this age?

I did notice how they ATTACKED their food. It was almost violent and it'd only been a few hours they were out. All I know is I'm going to add more food from here on out. They've almost gone through a 50lb bag!

I have mine being raised ouitside by the mom so I am not sure about feeding them crickets and such. I would think it was okay but I don't really "know" for sure. Mine are seramas so the crickets would probably eat them at this stage!

I was wondering that very thing! I always see them eating.... I thought they'd be lazy and not 'foraging/scratching around' but they're as active as the others and they RUN!

If no oyster shell what should I use for grit? That's all they carried....and even sold a small bag of it labeled 'chick grit'. When I saw it was oyster shell I bought the 50lb bag for 10$ vs the 5lb bag for 10$.
