7 in ICU, two dead. If you pray, please do.

Not trying to shift or place blame at all but I have a Durango and 9 people in seatbelts is NOT possible. Much less having those kids in the correct car seats. Like I said, not trying to blame the victims but if I cant belt them in right, they don't go.

I have worn my seatbelt everyday since I was 7 (26 years ago)when my dad was killed from being ejected in a car wreck. I actually feel half naked without it.

ETA: I'm glad your friend is well enough to talk with you.

I don't know why they decided to cram 9 people in that car. Save gas I guess. I especially don't understand having little ones without proper seating. I doubt car seats were being used at all.

BYW: He did sound awful when I talked to him. But I am thankful I got to hear his voice. I finally got to cry.

We actually have quite strict seatbelt laws here, but that doesn't mean everyone pays attention to them. The parent/guardian can be charged with manslaughter if the children weren't buckled in...I hope that doesn't end up being the case.

In any case, I'm sorry for your/their loss. I use to live in Gainesville, where most of them were taken, and have tons of friends there, including a bunch from BYC. Just let us know if there's anything we can do to help.

Thank you for offering help. I have never been to Flordia and I don't know anyone there. One of the minors was the driver's (his MIL). I have been tempted to go down there but there's nothing I can do.

Urban Dreamer, you've already done a lot in starting this prayer chain for your friends. Prayer accomplishes incredible things. I'm certain you will be in a position to do a lot more for your friends in the days, weeks, months, even years to come. Grief is a long journey and often is a lonely one when others not as closely associated to the situation naturally tend to forget. You can be a source of tremendous help & support for a long time to come. I pray also for strength, grace, comfort & wisdom for you.

Urban dreamer. I am so sorry to hear about your friends. Try to find comfort that they are in one of the best hospitals here in FLorida. Shands has a very good reputation. We will pray for them and you in your time of need.

Just watch out for his mother and wife. They are little "not all there" sometimes.

Anything you can do for them I would greatly appreciate it. It's so nice how 6 degrees of separation and chickens can bring people together. Thank you all.

Bless you for that, for the work you do and for offering what you can. It truly is amazing the wonderful people we all come in contact with here on BYC. One more reminder of why I love this site.

I have had this on my mind all day. However reading the article just made be breakdown. It is just heartbreaking when you put your self in the position this family has instantly found itself in. May God send everyone involved strength and courage
