A Bielefelder Thread !

A few pics of my Bielefelders.....they are fantastic birds!

Very docile and lay huge eggs!

They're beautiful! I'll be getting all of my Biel hatching eggs this weekend. I'm so excited! This is the one breed I fell in love with at first sight. I think they'll be a nice compliment to my NN Turken chicks.

Gorgeous birds and very glowing reports from owners of this created bird but then I get that kind of response from whatever other breeds people have as well.

I like gentle breeds but have been shying away from breeds over 5.5 lbs. -- I chose lighterweight breeds for less stress on their heart, etc. I once had a 7-lb Marans who frankly was a slow lazy forager yet calm in appearance but she occasionally found the energy to be downright mean to her flockmates if they were close enough to nip at or claw-jump.

Just a thought -- but could it be the reason Bielies are so docile is because like the created Cornish Xs these birds are too huge to move about as agile as regular heritage or other dual purpose breeds? Seems like the extra weight on certain chicken breeds make them less aggressive/agile/assertive as lighter-weighted birds. Large breeds like Brahma, Jersey Giant, Sussex, etc all get reported as docile or calm and I'm thinking it's because they don't have the ease to move around or expend the energy like lighterweight breeds. Has anyone had the Bielies to figure their longevity/productivity beyond 2 or 3 y/o? I know the gentle Cornish Xs are Frankensteinian in their abnormal growth from internal organs to their mulculoskeletal framework and wondered how the growth of large breeds like Brahma, Bielies, JGs, Sussex, etc compare in these areas of growth? How do the processed Bielies' meat/internal organs look?
I'm not an expert and just figured I'd learn by asking and getting owner input.

I don't have all the answers you ask for but wanted to say mine are great foragers. They run no leg problems. They are very sweet. I accquired some younger birds. The more domanate hen will peck them and let them know she has higher rank but she isn't vicious like other birds. They are one of my favorites.Pam

Hi Bielefelder people. I'm the proud papa of my first Bieles. This is the results of my first hatch.

The chicks on the left(2013 import) are out of Pams ^ cock in her avatar. The darker chick is a legbar. The ones on the right(2011 import) are from Coastline Poultry.
