A BYC CHANGE OVER REALITY. All need to read.

Well done, BYC staff. It will take me some time to adjust to these changes, but they were for the good of the forum, so I can't argue with that. I'm sorry for all the negative responses I've been reading, and it must be a little disappointing to have your hard work degraded. Format change is no easy issue, but BYC has done a good job countering it. So, well done BYC staff!

I still stand by what I have said. I don't like the change but I can put up with it. What I have no use for is requiring people to pay for basic functions like changing the post per page setting an removing that sidebar so I can see the forum in the whole screen.

thank you elevan ---- thanks for trying to help me and for letting me know --- can it be fixed?
I'll try clearing the cache and temp. files thanks again

I fixed it earlier and it was right for a couple of minutes and then it reverted back. Then when I tried to fix it again the system said that it could only be letters and numerals (no special characters...ie: ?) So I tried without the ?...still no go. So it's obviously beyond my level of understanding to fix...and most likely a glitch.

Have you tried clearing your cache and temporary internet files?

hey specklehen ~
I went there and when I was last there that was kickin' chickens page not mine I know,I know what's the chances 2 people would pick a name (almost) like that...... I'll try again maybe it's fixed now and just wasn't unpacked yet....................... thanks

This thread is a breath of fresh air I know I really needed after this long day. Thank you, Kurtis! And thanks to all the others who are finally understanding a little more and are willing to give it a chance.

what's kickin? chicken, your BYC page is in the Learning Center, where there is a link to all member pages.

I actually find a lot about the new platform good, even though I've kinda been posting all my comments on the complaints threads.

While there are some things that I find annoying or that I miss about the old site, BYC is basically just a place where I can chat to the friends I've made on here, regardless of whether the forum is blue or white. After I started getting back into the activity on the forum, I found all the new stuff less invasive.
I can see that an upgrade was definitely needed, so thank you to everyone involved. I would rather we had a cluttered, slightly confusing to use BYC than no BYC at all!

While I like some of the features and COMPLETELY UNDERSTAND the need for downtime and a move to new servers as the site grows, I believe the site administrators should have considered a couple of things:

1) Many folks who have chickens live in rural areas with slow or intermittent connections
2) Many peeps who have chickens in our lives want to live more simply and NOT have to spend a lot of time and/or money upgrading our computers and/or software to accomodate other people's technological whims.
3) Not everyone at this site is from the US, Canada or Australia. I've viewed posts from peeps in Mexico, China etc. Not everyone in, say, Mexico, has high-speed internet....
4) The new site is not W3C compliant for universal access. (or isn't labeled as such) This should have been considered as I find that W3C-labeled sites almost always load VERY fast and are very stable. I believe strongly in the W3C universal access concept.

Thus, I believe that the site should have been migrated to new and better servers but with a similar interface to the old site. Keep the number of scripts etc. down so the pages load fast even with a slow connection and an older computer.

The sheer amount of javascript is making this site run slo-o-o-w on my _Pentium 4_ laptop and I ain't about to go out and buy a new machine!!!!

As it is in this down economy I'm trying to live a bit more plainly and learn some of the skills that folks had before there WERE computers....

I understand a lot of what's going on here, the emotions and reality, honestly my only truly big complaint is just how cluttered everything is. Kinda drives me insane.

Although I hear Platinum members have the ability to see it a little more normally? (remove the side content while viewing topics, at least)

when I hover over tabs ---- no drop downs
>>>
I have IE9 too and I didn't have the drop down menus either until 15-20 minutes ago! I couldn't figure out what I was doing wrong. Then I noticed up on my browser taskbar the 'Compatability view' clicky and I clicked it...now I can see the drop down menus.

I am hoping this helps with the rest of the browsing issues I had and helps with some of the problems you are having as well too. There are still some things I don't really like but the rest is starting to get better....browsing earlier today was sure a shock though!
