A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

Have any of you guys ever ordered from Porters? Any thoughts? I just want to add some pretty birds to my flock. I'll sell the extras more then likely to some friends. Also want to get some meat birds to sell around thanksgiving. Didn't have enough last year.
I have ordered both poults and eggs from Porter's. With eggs, I had reasonable hatch rates for me. I think the hatch rate was around 40% but can't remember for sure and am too lazy to look it up. On the poults I received 18 for the 15 ordered. One died within two days and one died around 3 weeks. The others all grew very well and I had no problem selling the excess.

Lookin at the rapturkens yesterday when i was givin cherries... buster brown has a new man hood ornament. :lau. It is so tinny and willy nilly it is jus plain ole pittiful! But still cute.

NONE of them were pleased welp cept for Esther... paul was closin in the open stall for goats and oh my the noise and bitchin! Esther was tryin uhm help paul... yes help... she picked through his tools and tried runnin off/kickin with the bad ones she thought he didnt need use.. yanno the ones that looked dangeroud to rapturkens... rags for cleanin she face, a hand drill.. not sure what she might need that for, hand saw.. i guess to sharper her beak maybe?, she tried multiple times to get paul’s attention by yankin his britches and once his ear (most likely was the shiny ear hearers he wears)... maybe tell him she neeeeeded his things? Or just tell him stop that obnoxious beatin? We will never know. But one thing for sure... they all were glad to be saved by the end of the day for bed... no more bangin and beatin and fussin at esther for filchin all the things.

:gig

I am still looking for a small red handle screwdriver they stole out of my tool pocket

My breeding plans for spring.
Bourbon buff. 1 Tom 3 hens.
Bourbon red. 2 Toms 6 hens.
Royal palm. 1 Tom 2 hens.

My quandary. I have 3 narri hens with no narri Tom.
So should I sell them, butcher them, or cross breed the to toms that only have 2 or 3 hens in a pen so the pure hens don't get overbred.

I still have an open pen and some not pure toms as well I could put them with.

Figure I'll ask you all for opinions to get me off the fence

Something I found out last year is if you breed a Bourbon buff tom to bourbon red hens, all bourbon red babies will be boys and all bourbon buff babies will be girls. It doesn't work in reverse. But just in case you were interested in doing that :) I have no suggestions for the narris though. Maybe run them through the calculator and see which toms will make the neatest babies?

I breed some of my nari's with a BR Tom and use the offspring for meat.
Thought of this. But I think I'm gonna thin down Turkeys to just reds next year. Thanks

Did not know there was a possible sex link gene may try that cross and see if it works for me. If it does that would be awesome
