A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

Ok, Penguin. ..assuming he is a rusty black, bred to a Bourbon Red would produce:

Barred Black
Bourbon Red
Bronze
Red Bronze
Rusty Black
Semi-Jersey Buff

I got lost trying to pick out through correct blue. There are a bunch of different types. Things like resesive slates, self blue, etc.....not sure which to choose.

Okay - that sounds pretty cool! Will have to try it out tonight..... Probably will need a beverage to make it work, but I will give it a try :p

Penguin (Bb Rr) bred to Daisy (supposed Slate BB Dd) would produce :

Barred Black
Barred Slate
Black
Semi Jersey Buff
Rusty Black
Rusty Slate
Slate
Slate Edged Jersey Buff Semi

What's really cool is that it gives you a percentage of what colors are possible.

My new tom arrived today! He's HUGE! I'll get pictures of him tomorrow. He's serving his quarentine period in our big garage brooder....he is NOT happy rough now. He keeps jumping and slamming his head against the lid, trying to get out. I'm hoping that he knocks some sense into himself and relaxes a little bit.

[@]memphis I am in NTX. From looking at other pictures, my flock has three different types and I am pretty sure they are domestic. But I really need to learn more about them.

How exciting! Can't wait to see pictures. How old is he? Did he come named?

I was told that he hatched in early to mid May. I'm sure that he was fed much higher protien than my birds were since I only had 21%. He didn't come named but he will be Adam since our original "Adam" became Eve lol. I'm hoping he calms down and gets comfortable. He has to go through his quarentine period. He wasn't handled much so he's a bit wild. I'll be working with him to try to tame him up before he moves outside.

So a whole flock of 17 turkeys just showed up? I should be so lucky! :D
Go to the Porters Heritage Turkey site. He has tons of different breeds & pictures. You may be able to identify what breeds they are.

Any idea where they would have come from?

I just spent a lot of time with my two girls. Neither had been handled and now they are lap turkeys. Treats helped a lot. I'm sure he's a bit freaked out. Can't wait to see him. :D

So exciting! Can't wait to see pictures. He'll tire himself out eventually and settle down....and like Memphis said, treats always help :)
