A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

Got home to both girls roosting on my backporch rail. It was certainly still light enough for them to walk to the coop. But no...had to pluck each one off the rail & lug them to the coop. I plucked Annie first, thinking Daisy would just follow. No, she waited for me to carry her. Starting to wonder if they are playing me.

I think they are lol

I was forced to candle my eggs with less than a week on them....there was a "rich" odor coming from the incubator.

It is now clean and the culprit egg has been removed. I would not candle turkey eggs at this stage other than for the smell. It was a hairline crack that was a large hair now, in a turkey egg that had leaked. I have another turkey egg I am keeping an eye on.

BUT the point of all this is....it appears my turkey hatch rate will beat my chickens this hatch. I only found SS eggs to be developing (but it is early) and over half the turkey eggs or more showed development...

I moved the lone house turkey egg into the hatcher, BUT it is possible he keeled over. I could not tell for sure but it appeared to have a light ring of red at the air sac around the egg. I could see no movement. Thursday should be his day to say, "Hello World".

Too cute!

I have not even seen a turkey egg yet:hit
And when you guys sent the polar vortex down I left them in the coop for 3 days... also I tracked them in the snow and no nests.
However they are checking out the nest boxes and acting rowdy

Sounds like they're getting ready! How did your adventures go the other night catching girls off the roost?

I'm hoping I have a good hatch this Friday. I need 2 more RP and 3 more BR to fill an order. I had someone request 6 of each

My girls are all driving me crazy right now! Pebbles was up and moving really good with her babies and Princess was still sitting tight on the nest in the coop so I decided to kick Pebbles and her babies out of the cage and put Princess in it. That was yesterday morning. Pebbles paced around the cage trying to attack Princess through the bars for being in it, totally forgetting that she had babies outside the cage with her, so I took the babies and put them in the brooder. Princess, even with an egg in there with her, did nothing but pace back and forth all day yesterday and today and when I tried to give her babies, totally ignored them. Tonight, Pebbles had claimed the nest that Princess WAS in and was back to playing broody on eggs :barnie So I threw Pebbles back in the cage, kicked Princess out (since Pebbles immediately attacked her) and gave Pebbles back her two babies who she is now happily tending to again. Princess is back on the nest in the coop :he. The babies that I tried to give to her, went instead to Cynthia and Ana the chicken coop  I'm at a loss here lol

They are very nice saddles:love

Last night I got a saddle on one.... She slapped me up the side of the head and knocked my safety glasses up my nose when I caught her. :rant
After I got the saddle on I was busy with my bloody nose and lost interest in putting saddles on.:he
Better than a wing in my eye that happen with a chicken:gig
Very icy tonight so I wasn't interested in saddles:lol:
