A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

Oooooooo! I got a hissin fluffy snake up the hill tonight. Bout Cost me some blood for my egg huntin efforts. We will see how she does the next few days before i put eggs under the snake. She was a great mama last year. I was kinda hopin my palm would be the first snake. Last year gah! I could not break that thing from bein broody. I tried everything i could find and took away her pet rocks every single day for weeks. Finally said to heck with it and gave her chicken eggs.... no one bothered her til they started peepin in the shells. Then fatty bb sister decided she needed be mama hen and smushed the chicks before i realized they had pipped and were makin noises. Ugh. I know now to make sure to put the dividers in before it gets to that point. But i will do it quick anyway cause this tom is pouncin on anything that even thinks bout squattin. They jus have slow down to go poop and he is all fluffed up and tryin be manly man.

Apparently my cream legbars were too delicate to survive our winter, so I just have the one blue egg lady now.
Cream legbars can be a bit fussy in cold weather, but it's the Combs they have that are my biggest problem. I'll have some available next spring, if all goes well, since I had to do a full. My older ones(around 4-6) just weren't fertile or had weird shells, and so I'm starting over with a new batch. I learned something last year... The yearling hen I have left currently I s absolutely adorable, but she has a greenish tint to her eggs. We will see how the other 9 turn out by this summer.

A turkey hen burried the eggs yesterday. The usual spot I had put a bait egg and at night there was a smooth spot where the depression had been. I dug in the spot and found the bait egg and two more. It was in the 30s so I guess she was keeping them warm.. the other spot in the same fence row just had a couple of leaves over them.... makes it hard to go Easter egg hunting when they are burried

Didn't know hens would bury eggs. Interesting. Maybe that's what my slackers are doing.

Feedman, heading too Ste. Genevieve this weekend. Supposed to be warm! Hope your flooding goes down quickly. I know there are several roads closed in Ste. Genevieve county. Mostly along the river. Tis the season, I guess.

Speaking of slackers....while out grazing yesterday one of my neighbors stopped & wanted to take a picture holding Daisy. Told me he was going turkey hunting this weekend & never gets one and its sort of a joke. So this year he is going to send the pic of him & Daisy to his friends.

Our hen buried hers in hay. Only reason we knew is because my daughter saw her sitting and went to check after she saw her leave the nest.

Lordy ues they bury them. :). Sister is the worst! But at least she picks a spot and does it in the same place. The others jus do it in the nests.
