A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

Shouldn't be necessary I would think as long as wild hens hatch 1st she will be gone. If Sweetgrass hatches 1st you may need bee veil.
These aren't normal wild turkeys and I am not going to give her the opportunity to take off with any Sweetgrass poults.

I am pretty sure the bee veil will not be necessary. I normally maneuver protective hens so that they are at my back. A turkey flogging is as close as I get to getting a back massage. My only concern is dealing with two hens at the same time and preventing poults from being stepped on.

Came by the shared nest and got to see two Sweetgrass poults.

The Blue Slate hen had 8 poults out sunning themselves. Five are Tri-Color Mottled Slates and 3 are Tri-Color Mottled Blacks.

The last I looked, she had 12 eggs in her nest. Two of them are recent additions. It is possible that there are two more poults under her.

pretty sure we are dealing with a fox, but have no sightings yet. The stinker got another hen last night, one I had scooped off the nest because she was nesting in the corridor of the pasture I had previously see predator activity..... I was right, alas, she refused to stay off that nest in the field despite the fox/ skunks stealing all the eggs the night i took her off and put her in with the chickens. She would not be content, she moped around all day over her nest and then settled on an empty nest, which I did not realize until I found half a turkey littering my access alley... So I am down both that color of turkey, that color that was blue with something like a bronze gene, and maybe one red gene too. Interesting combo, both made the mistake of nesting too close to the suspected fox's regular pathing. All the skunks we have dealt with tend to leave the turkeys alone and only steal their eggs. They also usually don't leave a lot of corpses but haul away their catch, and they do not jump. It just seems different. Can't get it in a live trap, trying a different tactic with the live trap. If nothing else, my dad could just renew his fur trapper's license. Out of season, but who cares? it has killed three turkey hens so far...

7 out of 8 babies hatched so far. 4 blue red bronze and 3 what looks to be red bronze probably? One of them isnt pictured bc it was in the incubator drying off. Got them in the temp brooder until I can clear some stuff out to fit my new 4x4 I built

Did you incubate them? How many is there?
No, a brooding hen hatched them. There's only 3.

Poults got actual starter on Saturday afternoon, but by then they decided they preferred the slop and didn't want the crumble at first. They've since accepted it, but I think deep down they're still hoping for the egg mash lol.

How is the bumblefoot baby, @Bantambird ?
