Ug...sleet...

So Ralph...do you have all your breeding pen complete now? When are you separating them into pairs/trios /quads. Nope. I went outside to the shed and worked on them yesterday I am building 2 at once as they are 4x4 (well actually 3'8" x 4) and when building with 4x8 sheets it works well to do two at once. They are about 70% done.

BUT I got distracted, whining dogs, need for coffee and stuff like that. First my old dog wanted to go into the house so I had to walk her back to the house locke her in her kennel and have coffee.. Then a little while later the younger dog starting whining about being outside in the cold. So back to the house coffee and kennel all over.. And reading BYC..

Then I did a few things in the house and went back out, but it had gotten raw outside. SO it was back in and change into my insulated clothing. I worked on the coops a little more and decided to get some other needed things done.

The Speckled Sussex did not have light in their coop, so I added a light to it, Then I added a light to the toads coop.(Bert Jr's) that did not go as smooth as I had envisioned....

My worry is the light in there will throw them into early egg laying. Of course the whole time I was working outside I had 7 turkey toms helping me or sitting watching me. They seem to have forgotten what belly buttons they were to me the day before. After removing the hens the Toms are way better behaved. They did go to the hens pen and show off for them, but not for all that long.

Maybe Dheltzel will post pics of those mottled....hoping!

I hope so too! Dheltzel, do the mottled sell well?

Just noticed on the "Narragansett Turkeys, Anyone" thread that ZAZ will be selling Narri eggs. She posted a bunch of pictures. Just in case someone is interested and missed that.

Well, I lay a poult toys morning. It just wasn't thriving and was very weak. I'm pretty sure it was the same one that I had to put back in the incubator yesterday. The rest are looking good though.

Did u see my post on the first page?? Thats from when I first got my hens. Who now are gone from predators but I stiil love those crazy things!! I need more!

I remember the parents seemed a lot darker when they were poults. I think there are some darker ones and lighter ones. The yellow ones are probably Midget Whites, but I wasn't always marking eggs well, so the could be Royal Palms or a larger white from crossing 2 mottled silver dapples (if that is what they are). I think I will end up selling these are "mixed heritage turkeys" or something. I don't have room to keep any more adult turkeys in pens, so they either need to be sold or free ranged. Luckily, I have a great outlet for selling chicks and poults in out local Agway, I'm pretty sure I can sell all the poults I care to hatch.

I've been trying to sell hatching eggs locally, without much success on the turkey side.

As for how well the Mottled sell, I didn't sell any last year and only just started to try this year.
