A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

From everybody's personal experience what is the best Heritage breed to raise for meat and to be able to naturally reproduce......for more meat birds the next year.

I am not sure there is a best breed, I think they are all pretty much the same bird with different color schemes. I do not think you can get one to hatch in the spring and be ready to eat in November. I have a tom that I 14 months now, he was one of my "daddy" turkeys this breeding season, I am thinking he will be a guest of honor at Thanksgiving time, if his chest fills out.

I am not sure but I think he has put himself on a diet to try and gain another year.

I have heard that Bourbon reds are great (that's what I'm mostly going for) but that's only what I've heard. I don't know from experience yet.

@SilkieSensation Here's the picture I promised. Angel (BS) is in the middle, stretching. Cupid (BS/RS cross) is right beside her to the right and Pebbles (bronze mix) is standing in front of Cupid. I connected a few dog crates together today to let them all get out to forage and sunbathe a little bit. They freaked out a little at first but are all very happy and content in there now :) the goal is to get their coop put together on Saturday (we're procrastinators). We have everything for it, it's just not up.

Looking good. Is the rs/bs showing any colors besides blue at this point? Looks pretty much like a bs from the pic, but I can't see tail feathers.

It's very noticeable in the tail feathers but there are little hints throughout his body. Not a lot though. I'll get some pictures later on when i'm putting them away. Right now, they won't stand still lol
