Not to rub it in or anything...but I just put Charlie and the girls to bed.

Nice Mine go in eagerly at night. In the morning when I feed everyone, I plan for their bowls to run empty by late afternoon. They free range so they're obviously not starving but by the time 6:30-7 o'clock comes around, they follow me onto the garage while I fill their dish a little bit then right back into their shed to snack before bed. I leave their light on for them until about 8 or 9 at night when I close the chicken coop. By them, they're all on the roost and ready for bed

I wish mine went in easily.

I always have one that wants to stay outside and makes a break for it.

I am surprised JJ has taken to going in with little fight. Ethel always has liked to go in for the night.

I have even gotten the guineas to go in most nights this week.




I have a question for you turkey experts, so I assume that mean R2elk, Is there a "type" or breed of turkey that lays eggs year round?

it appears there are ducks that lay nearly year round, so I am wondering about turkeys.

I did find a hatchery that advertised that their variety of wild turkey lays year round, Sorry I can't remember which hatchery or which variety of wild turkey it was. I do know that a neighbor had a turkey that stayed in with his chickens under the lights that laid nearly all year. If I am remembering right, I believe that she only skipped about 6 weeks. She was a real messed up turkey that was terrified of his toms and never laid any fertile eggs.

I wonder if there would be a "niche" market for turkey eggs around here. Ethel was in the coop with lights last year and she never laid any earlier than the others.

I am not going to use lights on my chickens even. I am going to let them get by on the sun. Longer on the roost, less feed consumption and I will not have as many frozen eggs.

I was outside working for nearly 90 minutes!

Way too much for us old guys. I came in to make Brunch and have some more coffee. I looked out the window and saw this:




This is a meth boy tring to commit suicide. Had my wife been home he could be headless. Thursday is her day off, so he is lucky she went to town.

He was enjoying eating acorns off the deck.
