A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

Well I guess I'll just try to pick a tom and see what I get. I have no clue what the genetic makeup is on my hens. Barely sure of their breed. So no idea if they are pure or have dominant or recessive genes. Wish I had a better idea about them. I'll love the little ones no matter what they are genetically!

I guess the hard one to figure out is the so called rio grande one. She looks like a basic wild turkey around here. Darker color though. More black than brown.

If you mate your Bronze hens to JJ, you have a 12.5% chance of producing some Bronze poults. I believe that is the only mating that can produce more Bronzes for you in the first generation. As a side benefit you have the same percent chance of producing Blue Red Bronze and Red Slates.

Royal Palm - b1b1 cgcg dd nn
Bronze - bb CC dd NN
Blue Slate - BB CC Dd NN
Self Blue - BB CC DD NN
JJ - Bb CC Dd NN Rr

If you had a Narragansett tom, crossing him with the Bronze hens would produce 50% Bronze toms (split to Narragansett) and 50% Narragansett hens.

I was going through my Toms and it kind of looks like the only place I can get that small b I need. So JJ comes to the rescue again.

I could use a black tom but all I would get is barred black, I wonder how many people could tell the difference between a barred black and a black,,,,,( now I sound like a used car salesman)

Bronze is the color of the wild turkeys for use with the calculator - bb.

What kind of hen is she? Does she see ok?

She is a slate, a nice looking one, I think she is a self blue as I recall.

I look at eyes for two reasons. The SOP requires large eyes, there is a possibility her vision could fade as she ages. She is a smaller hen, I really want them a little larger.

I am looking for reasons to cull right now, so my reasons are getting a tad picky.

I think she sees fine.
