I see any actions ahead of time to show they gonna hit on you?

Stink eye and sneaky behavior, I really do not know what to say, I just know I can see it coming with my birds, Because I know them. I do not let my toddler Grand kids near the toms without me being right there. They want to hug them but my only hugger has died,. Jr and Snitch are not moving into their roles as lappers real well.

The only eggs I threw out were the two SS that I could see were nothing but yolk. One of those seemed to have a blood ring, but was otherwise clear. Lockdown is Tuesday, and I will not throw any away that look like they have even a ghost of a chance of hatching.

I checked my Stealthbator again later in the morning, and it again had reset itself to 43C! (No eggs inside.) I believe the STC1000 must have crashed. That sucks, because I thought those things were supposed to be so great, and now if I want to build a better cabinet incubator, I don't know what kind of controller to trust.

Those cheap controllers are cheap enough that you should always keep a spare on hand. If I was using a cheap one, I would have a wafer back up set at 102°F wired in. If your incubator suddenly seems to be controlling at 102° you know that the primary thermostat has failed and can quickly replace it.

Got a phone call from a person looking for hens.

Said they bought 2 turkeys last year from the farm store. Thought they had a male and female both ended up toms.

I asked how big they were. They replied massive.

I didn't have any spare hens. So gave them names.

I tried to explain that they had bbb. And that if they tried to mate a bbb tom over a standard hen. That the mating might not be successful and they took a big chance of injuring or killing the hen.

Reply don't care gonna put with the smaller of the 2 and see what happens.

I wouldn't have sold them any if I had extras.

I haven't raised bbb. So is my thinking off on mating bbb over standard.

Yeah, I wouldn't sell to people like that either. It's sad how some people don't care at all about an animal's wellbeing :/

So, Sprinkles is definitely a boy :/ I heard crying coming from the brooder earlier and when I went in to investigate, Sprinkles was in full strut, dominating all the other turkey poults. I will still be keeping him. I don't know if he will be dinner later or a breeder or what but I want to see what he grows in to. I was really hoping for a hen though.

I agree with you .. some people just don't care

Hmmmm.. I'm going to try selling easter chicks. My wife and daughter have both surprised me with how involved they've become. Might be because I told them they could keep the money. It was decided that we would Not dye the chicks. Thought about dying in the shell but decided it was too risky. My wife beat me to TSC where she picked up a flyer about the proper care of chicks. This has been mass produced by this time... The chicks will also have a supply of 24% protein feed to see them through the first couple of weeks.
Little baskets have been added to the mix for transport... Now my 18 year old daughter has decided that anyone who wishes to buy one of the chicks will be subjected to a rigorous screening process. :) I have to admit I'm not real comfortable with the idea of a snot nosed booger eating curtain climber squeezing one of MY chicks and naming it George (reference buggs bunny) Thankfully I'm in a rural setting where most folks have experience with livestock. Told my wife to purchase a sign that says we reserve the right to REFUSE SERVICE OR GOODS TO ANYONE!! I need to start making the birds earn their keep, but I have limits.
