How do turkeys do with rain? We're getting their outside grow out pen installed this weekend but looks like nothing but rain in the forecast after this weekend, of course.

They'll be 10 weeks old this upcoming week. The coop part is fully walled in and dry.

Should I tarp some of the top to keep them slightly drier?

Mine have apple trees dropping apples for them. They are tired of apples, they do eat acorns every morning though.

I see the ducks eating acorns and hickory nuts - haven't seen turkeys do so. Apple tree keeps dropping - I keep picking up and drying so they can have them this winter.

I keep thinkin next year i will be freezin a ton of watermelon. Cause payin the same for dumb melons half the size of summer ones is stoopid! I have tried apples but they arent interested. Maybe if i cut them smaller. Hmmmmmm. Ours do like acorns some too and hickory nuts and we got plenty of both here. Persimmons are a treat they only love if i am hamd feedin them. Brats! But they will be gone soon too.

Daisy must be getting over the worst of her molt. She was a happy dancing, twirling bird this morning. Even played soccer with me awhile. Normally one of her favorite things to do. I kick it & she flys after it. But during her molt she hasn't felt up to playing. So it was great to see her getting back to herself a bit. I'm such a nerd, but have been missing playing around with her. She's such a goof!

If I can find the time this next week, I plan on filling up a couple of 5 gallon buckets with acorns and hickory nuts. I don't even care if they are wormy as that just means more protein with the protein, tannin, and cellulose. lol

it says that when he died his flocks were disbursed to his students and some others in the northeast. SUPPOSEDLY some people are still using descendants of his flock BUT they are far and few between

Now I have to go look at what is a "nut picker upper".
