A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

I got 2 eggs from my girls today so far. I had my Marans in with the turkeys but I'm almost positive that the Marans hen is an egg eater :/ That could explain the lack of Marans eggs I've gotten this year and the fact that I've been finding hollowed out turkey eggs the past week. I kicked them out and so far, I have intact eggs. They will not be staying and I'll be taking my chances with their babies. This will be my LAST attempt with Marans. I've had terrible luck with them on every attempt so far.

I have one black copper maran and one olive egger chick. I do plan on making the slanted egg boxes for the hens (since I’ll someday have plenty more). But now you have me worried she’ll be a brat, haha.

I wish I knew more about owl behavior. If anyone has a thought...let me know. Yesterday and just now, as soon as I go out & sit in my chair, the owl flies out of the magnolia & perches on the branch above us. It's usual perch. Now mind you, my whole flock has been loose all day. The only difference is me showing up. And here's another weird thing. Both yesterday and just now...a squirrel ran up to it... causing the owl to fly to another branch. Anyone understand this behavior? How can a squirrel run off an owl? And as soon as I go plant myself out with the girls it flys over. Someone tell me what's going on in this owls head? Oh, it is beautiful when it flys over! And silent. So weird such a big bird can fly without a sound!

Are you a 'Harry Potter' fan by chance LOL

Never read Harry Potter. But did read the thread you posted. Glad I'm not the only one with a creepy owl. I'm wondering if these owls are protecting a nesting mate. I'm beginning to think that might be the reason.

It is probably protecting a nesting mate . Here the young fledge early June . They pair up around late December into January .

Other than this egg theif what have they done? I got some bcm chicks and you makin me nervous lol! I really want choklit eggs dangit!

My BCM roo gets along better with the turkeys than any of my other roosters (he keeps out of their way), and I've never had a problem with him or any of the BCM hens. They're all hen-raised and not as cuddly as some of my brooder baby chickens, but that's about to change! I've got a batch of their eggs set to hatch this weekend, since the silly turkey gals didn't cooperate and start laying soon enough to get turkey eggs into the incubator for an Easter hatch.

Yeah Jerry...I've decided Mr. Owl is standing by his woman. I need to get into the backyard & see if I can find the nest in the magnolia. Anyone ever eat an owl egg? Kidding!! I'm sure that nest falling out of a tree is a Federal offense. Kidding...again!
