A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

Try making a smoothie with nutrients and scrambled egg. Use the eye dropper the whole way in the back of the throat and force it in her too her crop is full. Wait a while until it goes down then do it again. This miracle smoothie has saved many a chick and injured bird here. I hope she pulls through.

So whoever is delivering chick shipments lately to the area (on Friday only) is messing up something bad... like when 40 of 350 chicks are alive for the second week in a row. Same hatchery on a Thursday arrives 100% alive, Friday batch is like 20% alive.... it’s heartbreaking.

They have cyanosis of the extremities and some had bubbling/discharge around the mouth so I’m thinking they were left near some diesel exhaust and/or not temperature controlled. Ugh...

Why does your po not call you to pick them up from the po early of the mornin?

May or may not lose one of the blue australorp :( She’s just not willing to eat on her own. She’s 4 days old, crop empty. Think she’s starving out. She drinks but will not eat. Ineven blended starter crumble and mixed some yolk and nutri drench all together and put it in a water bath to warm it slightly and gave to her via syringe drops and letting her swallow. She was fighting being fed but she’s tiny and so vocal. Her crop is about a third full and she was slightly less vocal. All the others are voracious and she sits in the food and cries.

Have you ever tube fed one?
It isn't nearly as difficult as it seems. I use flexible tubing like from an oxygen tank or fish tank. Attach the syringe to the end and slide the tube in. There are some good threads here, and YouTube videos were helpful. The first time is the scariest. Hope she has perked up by now.

I haven’t tubed before. She’s been letting me fill her crop every few hours with a needle-less syringe though. She’s willing to eat once it’s in her mouth but won’t pick up food. I tried using my hand to “peck” at food and sprinkled it bare on the ground and she pecks then drops it and then stands there chirping.... not sure why since she doesn’t seem to have any mouth deformities...

@PolarBerry May you be pooped on until your hearts desire is filled......

I set eggs and candled eggs, yesterday. It was a snow storm so I had nothing else to do. Everything I left should hatch, I think I have 10 turkey eggs (or 12, two rows full) for the 1st. About the same for the 12th.

My patched turkey egg leaked. One of my patched chicken eggs is still developing. Humidity hanging tough at 34-36%. No sponges tray 7/8th covered.

Ok, I have something new... I have an RP hen in the convent that one day will be full on broody (hissing, stink eye, etc) and the next just lounging around with the others like what? She's still laying so I have no clue what I'm dealing with here. I haven't gotten all the girls in the convent yet and haven't started the breeding program ( I need a dry weekend as it takes four of us to get all the girls and mud skiing isn't a good sport). I'm really concerned as my sole BR hen is not looking fully up to snuff today. Of course that could change when we try to catch her. Liked my last batch of lapper hens much better. Full time work makes it hard to spend time with the girls. I also discovered that I have two black hens after putting one in the convent. I still have one RP and a couple nari hens to move to the convent as well. Then the breeding program can start. Half my Toms are naked chested after all the snood pulling contests. And I have young Toms hanging out with the chickens doing the mating dance like maybe a chicken will invite them in (dumb teen aged boys).:rant

The little chick had some food in her crop when I was going to go force feed her! Not overly full but about half, but that’s better than empty. Was busy and it had been about 5-6 hours since I had last fed her so I was worried she would be starved by then. I swear she grew a tiny bit today too... probably just the larger crop making her look larger. Fingers crossed she keeps eating on her own.
