I lived in SC for a while so I understand not enjoying the heat with humidity! Some days it’s like swimming!

So most the 10 week old meat birds were around 5 pounds. So not too shabby. I haven’t weighed all of them, letting them rest more on ice before freezing.

Got 4 weaner piggies today and hopefully selling off my 15 poults that are stinking up my bathtub.

In 3 weeks we also are getting a Mastiff puppy

I think a second turkey hen is going broody so I may just see what (if anything) they hatch vs adding more on my plate for the moment!

I just got a postcard from my feed mill
THEY ARE CLOSING
I already am driving 150 mile round trip, was the closest place I could find with organic turkey feed..I can find organic chicken feed locally. but it costs more. Going to have to think about having turkeys and so many birds period... They were $20 for 40lb of turkey grower.. the conventional is$29 for 50lbs locally

Maybe I will get lucky and find another mill.So far I found 2 in Indiana that are 5 miles closer... but google says it will take 1 1/2 hour to 2 1/2 hrs longer to get there due to going through urban area.. not driving through all that traffic

I can feel your pain. Last year my long time feed dealer decided to retire and closed the business rather than selling it. I seriously considered becoming a feed store but was fortunate enough to find a store willing to order in what I wanted. Talk to your local feed stores and see if you can't work something out.

@Molpet you might need to work out getting your own mill set up! I feed mine a conventional 20% protein feed and it’s $15 for 50 pounds, a non gmo is $18 for 40 pounds, and organic exists only in the chicken layer variety (about $30 for 35 pounds).

May be switching to the non gmo one and raising my turkeys and all my chickens on it for ease of feeding (and it sells better here)

Molpet....several of my dog show friends (those with a lot of dogs) get feed drop shipped from the manufacturers. Not sure if that's an option. But you could contact a manufacturer and discuss it with them. They are always anxious to sell more feed!! There is that Chewy company that drop ships feed. I do have a friend getting parrot feed from them. It may cost a bit more but think of the time & gas it would save. R2elk had a good suggestion...ask them to order some for you.

Geez! Picture this....

Had just finished scrubbing all waters & wading pools & refilled everything. I was wet. Both from the hose & sweat. Hair falling out of a bun. Collapsed in an Adirondack chair. Daisy on my lap. Sussex on an arm. Wadding pools right at my feet containing chickens & a turkey. Fan blowing on us all. Neighbor decided to bring her out of town family over to meet the turkeys. We looked like Tennessee trash! Dumped Daisy off my lap only to discover the front of my shirt & shorts was muddy from her having been wading. They didn't stay long.....

chewy is expensive.. no non gmo/organic turkey feed.
I am going to ask the mill that is closing if they know of someplace closer to me
And I will ask the local feed store if they can order... just haven't found a brand to direct them to.. any ideas of a brand of at least non gmo high protein turkey ? I guess I can feed them eggs to boost the protein though LOL

these are the first turkeys I have hatched out of my own hens! I have more in the incubator..... I hope to have more than I can stand soon enough..

Hard boiled eggs are an excellent feed but will not boost the protein since eggs are only 12% protein.

Personally I believe the non gmo organic industry is a rip off and would not waste my money on it.
