A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

Aren't you expecting more heavy snow today?
It's supposed to keep snowing until sometime Wednesday.

Ughhh I hate poult time of the year every year, they're so goddang cute and every time I see them I want more... but I've told myself no more turkeys lol. I love these birds so much but good lord do I stress about them a good 80% of the day so I think I just need to let my birds live the rest of their lives out for as long as they will and... not add anymore.

Such wonderful personable birds. If only they made tiny mini turkeys that I could keep in the house lol.

i failed turkey division. I have, likely, 20 more than I should. My husband gives me heck every day, but lets me keep going. I am lucky. I did have some middle eastern folks come looking for an Easter dinner, they found out that turkeys don't really stay fat through the winter. I sort of shrugged, and said that is why we harvest in the fall, but they really wanted to have a fresh bird. I highly doubt any birds living outdoors are going to be particularly fat this time of year. I can't afford to make them really fat for this time of year.

mine are fat, but not fat enough. They do loose some fat over winter, but they feel healthy, just not fat. They want FAT. The keel is not prominent, but they check for the thick layer that developed under the skin around the breast. Mine tend to shed some during winter because they roam so much, but yeah, they aren't super skinny, just not fall harvesting fat. They get it by June, once the grass grows again.

I butchered a couple in late January that had way too much fat. They cooked up extremely moist.
