A little about my farm in pictures

WOW! Totally spectacular! Can we see pics of the inside too??????

I'm going come live in your ceiling with the flying squirrels and eat bird seed with them. During the day I will drive the tractor and harvester, and I PROMISE not to drive farm equipment on the road. I'll keep your horses in riding condition so the girls can have some free time on the computer.

Love your place, and the fact the farm has been in the family for 9 generations. You don't see that very often.

Do you mean my house??!! Good lord no, its a mess!! lol. Theres nothing spectacular about the inside. Although, it does have pine floors thru-out. From trees also on the farm. We carpeted over the living room.. cause the floors are so cold. The stone walls have no insulation either. And, they are about 2 feet thick in the basement, tapering somewhat to the top. I do have those real deep windows, you can sit in tho!

Ok, more pictures. I just got in from doing all the cattle/horse/chicken chores, its so miserable.. snowing/raining!

This was back in the days when we had pigs. We had about 90 sows, and about 750 pigs here at one time. Believe me, hogs are alot of work. We had a farrow to finish operation.

Believe it or not, this is a newborn. Ya, and thats me. We had a hard time calving this cow out, and this was her 11th calf. Her nerves were so pinched, she could get up (a total miracle), but when she would try and walk, she would fall down. I was so afraid she would fall on this calf and kill it. His front legs are bent (from being big), and also, from pulling him with the calf jack, we kind of friggled up his one knee. He was over on it forever. Hes coming up a year old, and seems no worse for wear! We almost lost him at one point, he got hiplocked, and I was actually jumping up and down on his ribcage, while holding onto a post in the barn beside the cow, trying to pry him out. The cow is gone, we shipped her last fall. Thing is, shes been bred to this same bull for 6 years.

This was directly west of the barn one evening. Spectacular!!

The day the old bull and the young bull got together. They didn't hurt each other, just did abunch of shoving, but it did take a long time to separate them, lol.

This is brown nose. Weird name for a cat, lol. Hes one of our barn cats, and WILL ride on anything, even this tractor!

Probably like alot of farmers... we raised a couple coons one spring. We brought some round bales of straw home from a barn we were renting across the road from us, and when he pulled in, I could hear the squealing. They were only about 10 days old, their eyes and ears were still shut. And, the nylon net wrap around the bales was actually growing around their bodies. We had to destroy one, its next was nearly cut in half. It took alot of tlc to bring them around, but they provided alot of amusement that summer! They buggered off in the fall. (and I hope that these weren't the ones who killed off 9 of my old laying hens a year later)!!

My two kids at home still, and hubby. And, Marbles, lol.

Deal!!

Heres a few pics of my girls!!

I put this in their pen, with fresh straw inside the boxes, and they fought over them, lol. While they were
checking them out, I did have to place a couple in their 'own'.

The guinea's when they were small. I only have 5 left, and I believe I have 2 hens, and 3 males.

Chicken killing day. We also do turkeys every year too. I hate killing those, they are soooo personable.

Ready for chillin!

My other girls. I have 2 honey bee hives, and get soooooooooooo much honey from them! Even tho I really
am not a fan of honey, I do cook with it.

De-capping with a hot knife. I got myself one of those pick decappers since. I like it much better. I think I
was gouging too much wax off the frames. I did melt it down, and have huge balls of it. I haven't ventured
into candles or anything yet with it.

This was from one hive!! We have to leave about 70 lbs on the hive for their own winter-time use.

My daughter raises dwarf rabbits upon request for pets. If she can sell at least 6, she will breed her doe.
First time breeding her doe, it gave her 8 babies. We still have 2, lol. A white and grey and white female.

My husband has a wee collection of John Deere two cylinder tractors. I took this picture of him long ago,
when he was plowing the front field.

This is just one of my 50 varieties of iris. I have it sooooo bad for iris's. I order from Shreiners iris's in Oregon
every year!! They are sooo pretty.

And so heres some more! Bored yet? Apparently I am, lol.

We have lots of maple trees, and make lots of maple syrup every spring. Thats alot of work too, lol.

Where we boil it down. This building wasn't quite finished when this was taken. Its all enclosed except the
front now.

Some of my canning. You can see some of the syrup down below.

Dill pickles are everyones absolute fav!! I make about 75 jars of them every summer!

This is daughter Melissa and grand-daughter Addison on Honey. Honey was given to us last June 2011.

Melissa spending some time line-driving her. We have the cutter down from the rafters, and cleaned off..
but haven't actually hitched her yet. Some-day tho!!

Some of the herd.

This cow has had twins for two years in a row. This cow is also a daughter from the yellow cow way above.

Another set from long long ago. This cow was 19 years old when she had these red roan twins. Of course,
its too bad one was a boy and one was a girl. (usually when twins to a bull... the heifers aren't any good for breeding).

What we are spending time doing this winter, although not today, lol. Hubby drive a snowplow, and has been
gone since 4am this morning.
