Yes it did have a slightly bad smell when cracked open

It's quite possible it had a yolk sac infection.

Well thanks for additional rude comments. I realized you possibly have good information however your attitude is very poor.

Had you helped him earlier he would have died for sure...leaving him alone like you did gave him a chance to finish getting it absorbed. I'm sorry but there is not anything you could have done.

So how would have assisting the hatch helped if the yolk sack was not fully absorbed?

Maybe. She was so good with her baby in July so I'm not sure what happened this time but at least baby #2 still seems happy and healthy

At least you have one healthy duckling does it have a stuffed animal and a mirror to cuddle with? So sad when these things happen but it def was not your fault you did all you could have done to help it

Ive been following along. You did a great job and have had some excellent help!
Im sooo sorry he didnt make it. But like the others have said, there is nothing you could have done and assisting sooner would have definitely not been good.

It's got a wash cloth to suggle with ( all I had that was smallish sized) and one of my old make up mirrors. Plus I bring him to work with me so he doesn't feel alone
