Advice for breeding BBS (Blue Black Splash) genetics! 🐣

I understand! Just want to make sure if I sell chicks or hatching eggs that there actually is a chance of getting all 3.

Anothet I could do is blue rooster with black & splash hens…if I’m correct it would be 50% blue, 25% splash & 25% black?
Best thing to do if you want to sell all 3 varieties is to have 3 separate pens! Blue x blue, black x black, splash x splash. The blue x blue pen will give you black and splash by default that you can add to those pens respectively. That’s what I would recommend at least. You might be selling blue black and splash chicks but if you breed black x splash to get blue, your blues won’t be high quality.

Note: Statistics are just statistics.

Random chance happens -- I've hatched around 40-50 chicks from my flock this year and have had only one splash and a disproportionate number of blacks.

But if I'd hatched 1000 chicks I'd probably have gotten the expected proportions.

I've had similar luck trying to get a silkied Splash Cochin bantam here! I haven't hatched as many, 9 last year and 10 this year that were all or mostly supposed to be from Blue x Blue breedings, but not a single Splash hatched and I've gotten almost as many Blacks as Blues!! I'll be setting up a pen with a Blue male over Blue females next year, so hopefully I'll finally get some Splashes out of them. :fl

Yes, again assuming equal numbers of Black and Splash hens laying about the same number of eggs each. ;)

My understanding was that there is no difference whatsoever between a black bred from 2 blues and a black bred from 2 blacks.

Blue is the heterozygous and Splash is the homozygous form.

What is the genetic mechanism that would create different sheens? :)

(I think purple is prettier, but green is the standard).
On the chart, the last combination of splash/splash gives a splash and a (fainter?) splash. Does that mean if you keep breeding those offspring the splash will continue to fade?

I'm not sure.

I don't understand the mechanism for the supposed problem of fading from breeding blue to blue

I don't know why it would happen if you kept selecting your blues for good intensity of color.
