Another concerned duck & goose mom on instagram reached out and brought to my attention someone who isn’t “from what I can see so far” exactly interested in the well-being of their duck.
From what I’ve seen they’re using their duck as a prop for media attention.
In one of their videos I’ve seen them staging a mock theft in which the duck was roughly grabbed, a chase ensued “while the duck is panicking,” and then the duck was dropped onto hard pavement. In another video they’re washing the duck with detergent....in that same video the duck has bumblefoot pretty badly by the looks of it.
From what I can see many others have expressed concern for the ducks welfare but it’s owner doesn’t seem to respond to that by any form of changes in the duck’s care and reacts fairly negatively to any attempt to persuade her to treat the duck better. I think it’s clear she isn’t interested in the duck beyond what the duck is doing for her follower count.
So how do you get through to someone like this? How to convince them that the duck’s welfare is in their best interest?
