I’m a long time reader on this site, but new to post! We purchased 4 chicks at the first of May. It was a man in my neighborhood who had gotten too many and needed to let go of a few. He insisted they were all female but he also said they were 6 months... which they absolutely were not, maybe 6 weeks, but that might have even been a stretch!

Anyway I’m worried they may not be female after all, I might just be psyching myself out. Not sure. One of the black ones is significantly smaller then the rest, but maybe she’s just younger? The barred ones have little spur marks on their feet, and the other black one just looks so different than the smaller black one. Any guess on gender would be much appreciated! And a guess on age would be helpful as well! Thank you in advance!

Thank you Leah! I appreciate it so much, we’ve always adopted hens that needed rehoming, so the young chickens are throwing me for a loop!

hello @KellyMP ! welcome to BYC :frow
Why are you doubting the seller? They look much more like 6 months than 6 weeks to me (they are definitely not 6 weeks!) Don't worry about spurs - some hens have them; they all look like pullets to me too.

When we picked them up 2 months ago they were tiny little things! All four of them fit in a box that was about 1x2 foot and had plenty of room to spare, and one chicken could fit in your hand! And he was just a random guy whose family started their own flock, so not sure how much actual knowledge he had. If they were 6 months then, that means they’d be 8 months now, so I just don’t think that’s correct. The age doubting led me to worry about their gender, and so on! :) I’m very happy to hear they might be closer to 5-6 months now though, and that everyone believes they are pullets! Thank you!
